Thomas Wolfe
First time posting here, figured I’d find some Thomas Wolfe readers. One of the most acclaimed American authors in his time, it seems like his literary reputation has dissipated since. Read just a few pages of Look Homeward, Angel and you’ll find prose unmatched. Sensory, emotional, every word perfectly chosen. He was revered by Faulkner and Kerouac and Thompson. (He also had the same editor as Fitzgerald and Hemingway) I guess he doesn’t really have the ‘image’ these authors have, and he died much younger than all of them. But, all these writers are still quite popular but somehow Wolfe really isn’t. Love to hear any thoughts.
All this talk of Lolita, I happen to find a first 1955 edition for 3 bucks
What do you consider the ‘definitive’ country song?
I’d say either Stand by Your Man (Tammy Wynette) or Faded Love (Bob Wills). When I think country music, those two songs are what immediately comes to mind. MAYBE Coal Miner’s Daughter or The Bottle Let me Down.
Edit: I’d like to submit Cowboy Take Me Away for consideration as well..
Lot 49 and Courier's Tragedy
Can someone illuminate the greater meaning behind that entire sequence? I feel like it's an allegory for something but it's completely beyond me.
