Macbook Pro 14 or Macbook Air 13 for "in Bed" usage

Hello,

I’ve read similar threads already, but couldn't find a clear conclusion.

Currently, I'm using a Legion Slim 5 (14"), almost exclusively for web browsing (multiple tabs) and media consumption—mostly next to me in bed or on my lap on the couch. In both scenarios, the laptop gets uncomfortably hot, which is super annoying!

Today, I received a 13" MacBook Air M4, and the ergonomics and size seem perfect (I don’t want or need anything larger than 14", since I have a desk setup with an external monitor at home). The speakers are a slight letdown compared to the 14", but that's only a minor flaw.

However, the MacBook Air arrived with a damaged display, which gives me an opportunity to reconsider: should I get a 14" MacBook Pro instead? It would give me better speakers and a 120 Hz display option, which sounds great.

That brings me to my main question: Will a 14" MacBook Pro run any warmer than a MacBook Air if the air vents are blocked by a blanket?

Also, I dont really need the Power of a Pro, because 95% of the time really just consume media and browse the web. So it somehow feels odd to spent minimum double price of a Macbook Air.

My thought is that as long as the fans aren't actively running, the vents can't really be "blocked" in a way that matters for passive cooling, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Super cool (thermal-wise) premium notebook for browsing

Hi,

i mostly use my LAPtop on my lap or in bed, browsing the internet or watching youtube.

In the past I was gaming occasionally, thats why I bought a legion slim 5 14, which has pretty good cooling solution, but runs quite hot on my lap.

In the last years, I already tried out countless premium notebooks like Yogas, x1 Carbon (gen 11 + 12, Spectre, Thinkpad X1, Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (Intel + Snapdragon ARM version), ... every device ran uncomfortable warm, probably because of lacking airflow since im using it on my lap.

Is there any 13 or 14" premium device out there with a different cooling solution or super low energy profile, which make this thing running cool my lap?

I think Macbook Pro would be perfect for me, but I can't stand MacOS.
