Youth work

Dear all,

I (German) am about to turn 25 and hopefully moving to Scotland (near Edinburgh) this autumn!

Currently I work in Oxford on a Skilled Worker Visa but I'm planning to apply for a Partner Visa next month.

At the moment I work as a Teaching Assistant at a secondary school and predominantly with teenagers who have Autism and/or ADHD. I do have a qualification (apprenticeship) in childcare which in Germany allows me to work with children as well as teenagers/youth.

I am very interested in working in a youth housing group and wondered if there's a decent possibility to find a job in that sector. As in, teenagers live together in a flat and are accompanied by qualified staff. I am not sure if it's as big of a thing as it is in Germany.

Moreover, if everything goes well with the Visa I'd be studying Social Work - am I able to work as a Social Worker while working towards my degree or do I need to wait until I have finished said degree?

Every advice is much appreciated!

Documents for Partner Visa

Dear all,

I hope you're well!

I'm currently putting together all the documents for my upcoming Military Partner Visa Application. Now, I am currently on a Skilled Worker Visa and was wondering if I need to include this in my new application at all as it's a different branch.

I was planning on including my work contract and payslips over the last two years plus a proof of an Administrative Review but is this still relevant?

I am worried about having too many documents in my new application - I've heard having too many is not beneficial for the process.

Has anyone got any tips?

Housing proof

Dear all,

I hope you are well!

At the moment I am putting all my documents in place so they are ready for my upcoming Partner Visa Application.

One thing I stumbled upon is proof of accommodation. I have to upload evidence of accommodation either through me or my sponsor (my partner). Now, my partner is a member of the Armed Forces and lives on the barracks where I'm not able to move to.

How can I proof my future accommodation?

I don't want to sign any tenancy agreements as I'm not even sure if the visa application will get accepted. I also don't have a job lined up as every employer asks for the Right to Work which I don't currently have.

Could I put my partners parents house (plus mortgage payments or contract) as accommodation while me any my partner look for a new flat? The problem with that is that it's a different town 3 hours from where my partner lives.

I just don't understand how I'm supposed to prove it until I get a decision on this visa 😅

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Administrative Review Advice

Dear all,

I hope you are well!

I am in need of advice.

The Skilled Worker Visa I applied for last August has been denied within the same month. I then filed for Administrative Review. Since then, my visa has been under review. This isn't really the issue as I know it's taking ages at the moment.

As I work in a school setting I have the summer holidays coming up in which I want to go home to see my family (in Germany). The problem is that my work contract runs out at the end of August.

My plan is to go back to Germany for the summer (in July) and apply for a Partner Visa in August. The thing is that I'd have to travel back to the UK at the start of August for an important event that I'd like to attend to.

So I'd fly to Germany in July, travel back to the UK for said event, then fly straight back to Germany.

Now, will I be able to re-enter the UK as a tourist for the event? Or will I have to stay in Germany as my contract only runs out at the end of August?

I'm scared that if I come back for the event the system will mark me down and that it will effect my new visa application.

Will I still be able to leave?

Many thanks in advance!

Administrative Review

Dear all,

I have been in the UK on a Skilled Worker Visa since August 2024.

Last August my employer and I applied for a new Skilled Worker Visa as my old one was due to run out. Sadly that application got denied due to not meeting the financial requirements. I do meet them but we think the Home Office didn't take the Term Time into consideration (I work at a school).

We then filed for Administrative Review.

On the Home Office website it said that it can take up to a year to get a decision but I am honestly losing my patience.

I have an important work trip coming up and I obviously can't leave the UK or else the AR will get cancelled.

The thing I don't get is that due to the decision taking such a long time I am still working in the same job that we applied the Visa for in the first place.

Has anyone got any advice?

I already sent a complaint to the Home Office due to the emergency of the situation (but haven't heard anything) and have just today sent an E-Mail to my local MP to see if they can achieve anything.

It just feels like there's nothing I can do and I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or has got any advice?

Many thanks!
