How do I safely get on my roof for gutter cleaning?

A bit scared of heights. Corrugated tin. Absolutely fkn treacherous up there as far as I’m concerned. Must be a better way.

What can parents do to help their kids (and you)?

I am interested to know what teachers have noticed about the habits engaged and achieving parents of students?

We read to our kids, encourage lots of reading time, take interest in their grades and subjects, encourage a rhythm of homework, speak resentfully about teachers etc but I’m wondering if there are other things teachers notice.

Yokohama for English speaking family with children?

Hello, what is the quality of life like for expats with children in Yokohama? We are currently in (tier 3) China but company is offering a transfer to Yokohama. We were looking to relocate home due to difficulty for family in China before this offer came up. Family is weary of living away in difficult environment.

We’ve loved our trips to Japan however holidays aren’t normal life and the hesitation comes from difficulties with language barrier and children.

How difficult is it for wife and kids who only speak English? For example they are keen on Judo before moving away. In previous countries they enjoyed things like rock climbing gyms etc.

Second main consideration is quality of international schooling - it is a deal breaker for us if we can’t get high quality schooling.

Is this normal (relief teaching)

Newly qualified family member took first day of relief teaching. They have a name strongly associated with a certain religious group (albeit no connection - not that it matters). The school is in a decent enough area and has a not insignificant number of students from another Religious background that often have an issue with people of this teachers namesake.

The family member was repeatedly questioned on their ethnicity all day and culminated late in the day with kids repeatedly taunting with racial slurs, writing prominent third reich names on their worksheets and eventually, in one case, getting up in their face and demanding to know why teacher asked for their name.

I don’t want to be naive but this behaviour seems completely abhorrent. I never recall this type of behaviour when I went to a much lower Socio economic background school.

Family member questioning their choices. Is this unusual or will thicker skin be required?
