I happened to have spare drivetrain from a different bike that I sold, which just happened to be the perfect singlespeed ratio to run without a tensioner or anything. I was gobsmacked when I just tried it with a chain tool and it just worked.

It’s such a fun bike that I can’t change it now, and I always wanted a sscx bike anyways, so I guess ill have to buy another bike if I want one with gears
