My son will be starting engineering in the fall - I've got the standard questions from friends/family who want to gift him something, thought they could contribute towards a laptop. We are very much a mac family, he has a chromebook which he used for high school. So rather than getting him something that's not going to be useful (eyeing the Neo) I thought I would check.

It sounds like there are windows specific software which is used.. Don't want him to have to run a windows vm because something isn't supported on the latest mac architecture.. appreciate any guidance on this..
