Some of my faves from July. Started the month racing a crit and ended the month on a 3 day bikepacking trip. I like this bike a lot.
Hey gang, I humbly submit my power profile for your examination. I'm looking to gain a better understanding of my strength and weaknesses and I'd like to leverage r/velo as my "coach". Here's a bit about me:
42 y/o husband/father
183 cm, 83 kg
riding bikes for 10 years, drop bars, lycra and structured training for 4ish
employed full-time
live in the north
uncoached
r/velo lurker
10-12 hours riding time per week
1 x progressive vo2 workout/week
1 x progressive threshold workout/week
I commute 3 hours per week, usually z2 or lower unless I'm late
2 x longer rides on the weekend, if I have 2-3 hours available and I'm feeling good then it's a tempo or sweetspot ride, last year I progressed to 3 hours of SS which was pretty cool, if I'm cooked or I have more time, it's AR or z2
1 x rest day, sometimes two
I have a history in the gym and I'm there in the off-season for 4-7 hours a week, now I'm lucky if I can get there for an hour.
I've raced mtb and gravel events during the last 6 seasons (a few podiums in mtb and several also-rans in gravel) and always tailored my training, such as it was in the early days, for those races. I'm not racing this year and find myself a bit untethered as I have no training goal, beyond wanting to be faster, and I think my power profile reflects that.
I've logged some long rides and each year ultra distance becomes more appealing to me so I'm looking to improve my durability and TTE with a goal of a sub-6 hour 200 km or a sub-10 hour 300 km or, my white whale, completing a 400 km ride. I just wanna go further, faster while not feeling like a charred husk of a human. Is the recipe just loads of tempo/sweetspot and getting fueling nailed down? I know stress tolerances are individual and many things can impact training but generally speaking, is there room in my current schedule for changes without negatively impacting the other facets of my power profile? I'd obviously love to improve my FTP, can this be a case of "a rising tide lifts all boats"?
Thanks for reading and any insight you might have to offer.
Hey fam, I took a bit of a tumble over the weekend and one of my bottle cages snapped of the frame and I’m having a hard time finding a direct replacement in Canada. It looks like Canyon won’t have stock for another 6 weeks so I’m looking for some recommendations on a carbon bottle cage similar to the Canyon CF SL. Pic for interest.
Was also the first longer ride on the Zipp Service Course SL XPLR 40cm handlebar, it’s an absolute delight in the drops! Went from a 38cm 3T Superergo Pro road bar back to a Ritchey Venturemax in 42cm, looking for a bit more confidence in the drops on singletrack, then I remembered why it was laying around and not on a bike: it’s the worst.
Update, a defective Thunder Burt was replaced under warranty and I upsized the front from a 2.1 to a 2.25. It’s been a bit and I’ve put it through the wringer trying to see if it’ll rub the fork, which I’m happy to report that it does not. A certified singletrack slayer.
Just noticed this section of exposed casing on my newish thunder burt, I’ve started the return process with the place I purchased them from but what is going on here?
