Ancient Greek Epityrum
Hi, thank you to everyone who inquired about more Ancient Greek food. I hope this post (and future ones) inspires you all to, at least, try cooking Ancient Greek food since as someone who has been cooking this type of food for 2 short months, my passion for all things Ancient Greek has only grown, especially reading the stories are certain foods that were derived from the Gods themselves! Last night I made "Epityrum" which is what you see pictured above. From my online research, I believe it was treated similar to a modern tampade and was meant to be served over cheese as the Greek phrase "epi tyron" literally means "over cheese". This is only my second time making it and I usually pair with any type of bread I have at the time, with that said, I admit it's not perfected, but surely I will have many more attempts. For the recipe list, I used googles Gemini, but according the Cato himself you should use : "finely chopped green and black olives with olive oil, vinegar, cumin, coriander, fennel, and fresh herbs". If you want the actual recipe I used, it's listed down below. Thank you and I hope this really inspires you to make some yourself, take it from me personally, it was super inexpensive, simple, and delicious! Oh and suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Recipe: Black/ Green Olives, Cumin, Fennel, Mint, Cilantro, Vinegar, and Olive Oil
