How important is it for potential artists to specifically like some of your beats, by name?
With the non exclusive beat market super over saturated, the market is starting to look more like the design/tech industry with a more client relationship between artist + producer.
I run an design engineering agency and when a lead hits me up to work with them, the second thing I ask after stating my pricing floor is “what pieces in my portfolio resonates the most with your business/brand.
If they can’t explain that, then they’re are either shopping for lowest bidder or don’t care about taste/results. Just, “can you copy this already successful thing for me for the low, even though you don’t have work like that in your portfolio”.
How many producers here are now looking for artists that basically fall in love with your beats first and then you either work with them client style (they pay a fee up front) or venture style (free or heavily discounted up front + get 50% of the writers and 50% of publishing)?
