I wonder if this can get banned. I’ve seen it on multiple ads now on Property24 and it completely misrepresents the space.

The furnishings AI often times makes the space look bigger than it is.

I work for a subsidiary of a major listed retailer in SA and wow have my eyes been opened. I see so many people up in arms about BEE being unfair which is absurd if you look under the hood. And maybe I just need to vent too.

At my org the vast majority of the leadership positions are held by white men. Our LinkedIn page is filled with stories about how they’ve developed people from the call centre all the way to the corporate office. They constantly showcase the diversity of the company and yet none of it is real. He’s what I’ve seen this year alone

- the directors have brought in about 10 (white)kids that they know who’ve just finished varsity. We over heard the one say he’s visiting different departments to see where the vibes are before he decides what job he wants. This was after he just started but already went on vacay on a yacht in the Maldives.
- Meanwhile they forced a mom to work 8-5 even though most other people get flexi hours. She’s been at the company 10+ years and had a good record.
-They tried to send someone back to the call centre to make space for one of the kids above.
- they terminated another qualified person to make space for one of the kids above
- they’ve promoted white people with no experience into senior titles and more pay but when it comes to everyone else they have to do psychological assessments and then suddenly there’s a benchmark process
- everyone has to do linkedin learning but the connected folk get to do training for R70k+ that’s tangentially related to what they do
- and the cherry on the cake was disbanding the EE committee for recruitment when people kept asking why we’re hiring under qualified white candidates over others.

But they keep their BEEE certification because they know how to provide just enough upskilling and social development.

Hire your family but the fakery is gross

I don’t care if people smoke. Do what you want with your body.

Lately though it feels like smoking has become popular again. 10 years ago (or whenever it was banned in public places) there were designated smoking areas which was great.

Now it feels like you can’t walk anywhere outside without walking into a wall of smoke. For e.g walking outside Cavendish, walking around CBD just people smoking everywhere.

I genuinely thought it was illegal to smoke in front of doorways and entry ways. Now it’s just accepted again and I’m so irritated by it because it’s sometimes hard to avoid.
