Articling at a small firm

Just wondering what the going rate is these days for articling students at smaller firms in Toronto.

I'm currently considering an articling opportunity at a small firm in downtown Toronto. Compensation hasn't been finalized yet, but I'm expecting they'll offer the LSO minimum of $620/week.

I'm an ITL so I realize beggars can't be choosers granted how difficult it's been to find articles. I'm conscious of the fact that having the opportunity at all has value in itself, particularly since it came through a connection.

At the same time, I'd have about an hour+ commute each way, so I'm wondering whether $620/week would be low for a small downtown Toronto firm or whether that's fairly normal.

I'd appreciate any insight!

Printing/Binding Bar Materials

I just registered for the Fall 2026 Barrister and Solicitor exams and I’m still trying to understand how people actually organize all of the materials.

Which service did you use to print/bind everything?

I know I could probably do it myself, but I don’t really want to spend hours printing, binding and tabbing 2,000+ pages if it’s worth having someone else do it properly.

Also, did you use an index during the exams? Was it actually helpful or necessary? Did anyone use summaries or charts as well, or did that just become more paper to manage?

Any recommendations or things you wish you had done differently would be appreciated!
