My own voice echoes constantly. Which devices prevent that "talking in a barrel" sensation?
My hearing is perfectly fine in the lower registers, but I suffer from a severe drop-off in the high frequencies. I recently tested some devices, and I absolutely loathe how my own voice sounded. It echoed intensely inside my skull as if I were talking at the bottom of a well (which I have since learned is called the "occlusion effect").
My hearing specialist recommended trying an "open fit" style. However, I am worried about the horrible squealing (feedback) that supposedly happens when you use highly vented ear domes. I need a manufacturer known for top-tier feedback suppression so I can leave my ear canal as unblocked as possible. For those of you with similar "ski-slope" audiograms, which brand preserves the natural tone of your own voice best without constant whistling?
