venus went retrograde today, and this time it ends in its weakest sign

venus started moving backward today. the turn came on 3 oct 2026 at 12:43 pm ist, at libra 14.3 degrees (lahiri). it backs into virgo on 6 nov 2026 and turns forward on 14 nov 2026 at 6:00 am ist, at virgo 28.6 degrees. so for six weeks venus walks backward, and it finishes in the sign where it is weakest.

every 8 years venus does this over almost the same stretch of sky. in 2010 it ran from libra 19.2 to libra 3.6, and in 2018 from libra 16.7 to libra 1.1. each loop starts a little earlier than the last. this is the first one in the series to slip out of libra, its own sign, and into virgo.

the rule for that weak sign is old. jataka parijata 1.29 lists where each planet is strongest and says the 7th sign from there is where it is weakest:

मेषो वृषो मकरषष्टकुलीरमीनाः तौली च तुङ्गभवनानि तदस्तनीचाः ॥

for venus the strong sign is pisces, so the weak one is virgo. the commentary in the chowkhamba 1953 edition puts its very lowest point at virgo 27. on 14 nov venus turns around just past that point.

what to do until 14 nov 2026: the charity chapter of jataka bharanam (v.7) lists rice and ghee among the gifts for venus. give some to someone who needs it.

comment your moon sign and i'll tell you which part of your life this runs through. don't know your moon sign? your free chart is at kundlit.com/janam-kundali. for one specific love or marriage question during this stretch, dr. deekksha does a one-page reading for rs 500 at kundlit.com/one-question-micro-reading.

will you marry someone from your own town or from far away? a 3 step check you can do on your own chart

here's a quick check for where your spouse comes from, it takes a minute. the rule is from sanjay rath's crux of vedic astrology (10.4.2). the slides walk through one example chart.

if you need your chart, there's a free one at kundlit.com/janam-kundali. it's one indicator, not the whole story.

married? tell us if it held for you. not married? comment your venus sign and where the lord of the 7th from it sits and i'll tell you which one you got. don't know your chart? drop your birth date, time and town and i'll work it out.

want the whole picture? Dr. Rao (PhD, Astrology) does paid marriage readings: when you'll marry at kundlit.com/when-will-i-get-married, and who your spouse will be at kundlit.com/future-spouse-prediction.

should i quit my job? your chart knows - and it will not say "this friday"

i'm dr. rao, phd in astrology. the most expensive question in astrology is should i quit my job. people ask it on a monday, usually, while staring at one email. i get it.

here is the honest version of what a chart can and cannot do. it will not name the company you should join, and it will not tell you to resign this friday. anyone promising that is selling you certainty the sky does not carry. what the chart can do is tell you what kind of work you are actually built for, and when the timing favours the move - which is the part people skip and then regret.

the reading works on three layers. the 10th house and its lord, graded for dignity, for profession and standing. the dasamsa, the d10, the dedicated career chart, for the kind of organisation you fit: service, enterprise, creative, technical, advisory. and the atmakaraka placed in the navamsa, which explains the pull you feel toward work you cannot quite justify on paper. then your running dasha is checked against all of it, and that is where the timing answer lives. sometimes the answer is: this is the year. sometimes it is: wait, and here is why, and here is roughly when the window opens. saturn is slow, but that is his job. it is not a personal attack.

if the chart favours starting something, we say so. if it favours keeping the job while you build on the side, we say that too. you leave with directions and dated windows, and the final call stays yours. no offer letter included.

when will i get married? your chart has an opinion. so does your mother.

i'm dr. rao, phd in astrology. when will i get married is the question every astrologer hears the most. sometimes it comes from the person whose chart it is. more often it comes from their mother, at a wedding that is not theirs.

here is what an honest reading does not do: it does not hand you a date. anyone promising a date is usually selling you something else, and it is often a gemstone. vedic astrology works in windows. your chart opens a season that favours marriage, usually two to three years wide, found by reading the 7th house and its lord, venus and jupiter, the navamsa, and the dasha that switches the whole thing on. saturn delays things. that is his job, not a personal attack.

what you get is the windows ranked by strength, an honest read on what is holding marriage back when something is, and remedies matched to the actual affliction instead of a generic list. when the chart shows no real obstacle and the delay is just dasha timing, the report says so and tells you patience beats ritual. i respect you enough to say when the answer is wait.

so if your mother has started asking, or you have started wondering on your own, your chart is a calmer conversation partner than the family group chat. it does not ask why you are still single. it just shows the seasons.

your future spouse is already written in your chart - where the classics actually look

i'm dr. rao, phd in astrology. the question i hear most: describe the person i'm going to marry. so here is where the classical texts actually look, and the method is more specific than people expect.

the 7th house is the house of the spouse. its lord, the planet ruling it, carries the main description. venus is the karaka, the significator, of the spouse in a man's chart, and jupiter carries that role in a woman's chart. the navamsa, the d9, is read as the dedicated marriage chart. the jaimini layer adds the darakaraka, the planet with the lowest degree, which becomes the karaka of the spouse, and the upapada, the significator of the marriage itself.

each layer answers a different question. temperament comes from the sign the 7th lord sits in and from the darakaraka's placement. background and education come from the 7th lord's dignity together with the 2nd and 11th counted from the upapada. the in-law family comes from the 2nd and 4th counted from the 7th. whether the marriage leans love or arranged is weighed from the link between the 5th and the 7th house.

phaladeepika's tenth chapter, सप्तमभावफलभेदः, the effects of the seventh house, closes a verse this way:

सौम्याः कलत्रं ससुतं सुखाढ्यम्

when the count from the lord of the spouse falls on benefics, the wife is fortunate, with children. the edition's own hindi commentary says the same: the wife is supremely happy, a mother of children.

one honest boundary. the chart shows the shastric picture, not a photograph. two people can match the same indications and still be different people, and no honest reading names a person. you get the classical indication with its source named.

the full reading - nature, background, in-laws, how you meet, love vs arranged, and where the marriage shows strain - is here:

Your chart names the world you came from before this one

u/puru991 — 2 months ago

Your anger is not the problem. Your aim is. Mars and Saturn in Vedic Astrology.

Mangal and Shani were never friends - and the shastra says something sharper

than that.

In the permanent-friendship list of the classics (Brihat Parashara Hora

Shastra, Saravali, Phaladeepika), Mars holds Saturn neutral - "sam", neither

friend nor enemy. But Saturn's own list names Mars among his enemies. One

calls the other enemy; the other calls him equal. That friction is not a

defect in your chart. It is fire meeting patience.

Phaladeepika describes Mangal as the son of Earth - fierce, red-bodied,

generous even in anger. And the shastra calls Shani the servant of the grahas,

the slow-goer - mandagami, the Vishnu Purana names him - the one whose full

aspect falls on the 3rd house of courage and the 10th house of work. Shani is

not the brake on your fire. He is the scope that aims it.

Samau sitarki shashijash ca shatrur mitrani sheshah prithivisutasya -

"Venus and Saturn are equal to Mars, the Moon's son is his enemy, the rest

are his friends." (BPHS, maitri slokas 53-54)

Your rising degree, not your rising sign, is what Saravali uses to place the moles and scars on your body. Lilly has nearly the same rule in 1647.

The verse that makes you Manglik has a second line, and it decides whether the rule applies to you at all

Only three houses in Phaladeepika name money coming in. The 8th is not one of them.

u/puru991 — 3 months ago

The 8th house is not the "sudden money" house. Here is the actual name list from Phaladeepika I.14

The three houses Phaladeepika names for money coming in, and the 8th.

If you have read anything about money in a chart, you have been told the 8th house is where sudden wealth lives. Inheritance, insurance payouts, lottery money, windfalls out of nowhere.

That is not in the text. Here is the verse that defines the 8th house, and here are the three houses that actually do name money.

What Phaladeepika says the 8th house is called

Mantreshwara spends the opening chapter doing something very practical: he gives each of the twelve houses a fixed list of names, and those names ARE the significations. Whatever a house is called is what you read from it. For the 8th:

>माङ्गल्यरन्ध्रमलिनाधिपराभवायुः- क्लेशापवादमरणाशुचिविम्बदासान् ।
>
>* Phaladeepika I.14

Name by name: mangalya, randhra (a hole or opening), malina (impure, soiled), adhi (mental pain), parabhava (defeat or insult), ayus (lifespan), klesa (sorrow), apavada (blame or scandal), marana (death), asuchi (impurity), vighna (obstacle), dasa (servant).

Twelve names. Not one of them is money. The 8th house in this text is the longevity house, and after that it is the house of obstruction, disgrace and things that go wrong quietly. That is why it is grouped with the 6th and 12th as a dusthana, and why the 8th lord's period is watched so carefully in dasha work. Reading it as a jackpot house inverts what it is.

(A note on the printing: the Kashmir Research Institute edition prints विम्ब in that compound, and its own translator glosses it as vighna, obstacle. The Hindi edition prints विघ्न directly. Same word, one is a typesetting slip.)

So where is money?

Three houses name it, and they are unglamorous.

2nd, Ph. I.10. वित्तं विद्या स्वान्नपानानि भुक्तिं दक्षाक्ष्याख्यं पत्रिका वाक्कुटुम्वम् ॥ vitta (wealth), vidya (learning), sva (one's own), annapana (food and drink), bhukti (eating), the right eye, the face, patrika (a letter or document), vak (speech), kutumba (family). This is wealth you hold. Not income, but the balance.

10th, Ph. I.15. व्यापारास्पदमानकर्मजयसत्कीर्तिं क्रतुं जीवनं vyapara (commerce), aspada (rank or position), mana (honour), karma (occupation), jaya (success), kirti (fame), kratu, jivana (livelihood or profession). This is money you work for.

11th, Ph. I.15, the same sloka, second half:

>लाभायागमनाप्तिसिद्धिविभवान् प्राप्तिं भवं श्लाघ्यतां ज्येष्टभ्रातरमन्यकर्णसरसान् सन्तोषमाकर्णनम् ॥१५॥

labha (gain), aya (income), agamana (acquisition), apti (getting), siddhi (accomplishment), vibhava (wealth or riches), prapti (profit), bhava, slaghyata (commendation), eldest brother or sister, the left ear, sarasa, and hearing pleasing news.

Seven money words in a row. If any house in this chapter is the money house, it is the 11th, and the text is not subtle about it.

And for completeness, money leaving has its own house too, which also is not the 8th: the 12th is named vyaya, expenditure, along with daridrya, poverty (Ph. I.16). The 6th names rina, debt (Ph. I.13).

One thing you can check in your own chart right now

Find your lagna sign. Count eleven signs forward from it, counting the lagna itself as one. That sign is your 11th house. Two things to look at:

  1. Which planets are sitting in it.
  2. Which planet rules that sign. That planet is your labhesha, the lord of gains. Find where IT sits, and which house it is in from the lagna.

The lord of the 11th placed in the 2nd or 10th, or the 2nd and 11th lords exchanging signs, is the kind of configuration the wealth-yoga chapters are built out of. A lord of gains hidden in the 6th, 8th or 12th is the opposite signal. That is one honest look, and it costs you nothing but counting.

What it will not tell you is timing, which is a dasha question, not a house question.

Why this matters beyond trivia

The "8th house equals windfall" line spreads because it makes a boring house exciting. But if you go looking for money in the 8th, you will read the wrong planet, in the wrong house, for the wrong reason, and then wonder why nothing lands. The name lists in Adhyaya 1 exist precisely so you do not have to guess. They are short, they are numbered, and anyone can check them.

If you want the full timed wealth read for your own chart, with the exact dasha windows and the yogas actually present in it rather than the ones the internet assumes: Dhan Yog wealth reading.

Edit, 1 August 2026. A correction, and it goes against my own title.

u/Relative-Shallot5059 pushed back in the comments and is right on the part that matters. I did not check widely enough before writing that headline.

"Not one of them is money" is true of Phaladeepika I.14. It is true of Sarvartha Chintamani's list too, which calls the 8th Guda, Moothra, Krisa, Guhya, Randra, Marana and Auyoo, with no wealth term in it. It is not true of the tradition as a whole.

Uttara Kalamrita runs its own signification list in the Karakatva Khanda, and three wealth terms sit in the 8th. Sloka 14 gives मृतधनं, the wealth of one who has died. Sloka 15 gives अज्ञानाप्तपरं धनं, another's wealth that arrives unawares, and चिरधनं, wealth that has lain a long time. Inheritance and other people's money are named there directly, not counted out. Lilly arrives at the same place independently in 1647, listing the eighth house as the estate of men deceased, the wills, legacies and testaments of men deceased, and the dowry of the wife.

So the correction is this. The 8th is not a house of gain in its own right, which is what the 11th is for and what the body of this post is about, and that part stands. But money that reaches you because somebody else stopped holding it does have a classical home in the 8th, and my line about looking for money there being simply a mistake was too strong.

Two things that do not survive the check. The same Uttara Kalamrita list gives जाड्य, dullness, where the popular version wants "sudden knowledge", and it carries no fame word at all; satkirti is in the 10th and slaghyata in the 11th. And the reasoning usually offered, that the 8th is the 2nd house counted from the 7th, is not in these texts. Kalidasa names the significations, he does not derive them. The derived-house arithmetic is a modern layer on top of a conclusion the older books had already reached another way.

Which house actually gives a lottery win is a separate question and I have answered it in the comments.
