Crazy Idea: Kayaking to work

Good morning r/Kayaking

I recently accepted a job with a sub 10 minute commute by car. The job also happens to be next to the local river valley. With my new super short commute I've been considering what are all the craziest ways I could commute to work. (Bike, roller blade, razor scooter, etc.)

The idea hit me, what if I use the river to get to work? The biggest issue is that work is upstream from me, by about 4-5 miles. This is a small local river with an estimated speed of 1.5-3 fts/ second during periods of low rainfall.

Would this even be feasible? I know I'd have to start super early and it would be a lot of effort. I'd obviously do this on a day where I could bail and take the car if it didn't work out.

Thanks for helping me think this one out.
