How much should resting heart rate be taken into consideration with BP?

For the past 10 years doctors have been telling me that I have elevated blood pressure/stage 1 hypertension.

This has always been very surprising to me, because I am in the gym 2-3 times a week. And average 15k to 20k steps a day, my low days are 10k steps (on the weekend). My diet is clean, so it just did not make sense to me. I have tried several methods of lowering my BP , with the exception of prescriptions, because I just don't think I am at that point yet.

This weekend I took my readings, and for the first time it clicked, what if my BP is high because I have a low RHR? Mechanistically this would seem to make sense, if my heart pumps less often, it would make sense for each pump to be more forceful in order to pump blood to all me extremities. Is my thinking flawed? If so how? I can't seem to find anything online about this anywhere, and plan to ask my doctor on my next visit, but wanted to check here as well. Thanks.
