I sometimes enjoy starting a flight on VATSIM, and getting some work done while in cruise. What are the rules/etiquette regarding requesting the center controller to send direct/SELCAL messages? Ideally I would like to turn down the radio volume to avoid interrupting my focus every 10 seconds trying to decipher whether a call is addressed to me.

Of course I understand I can simply disconnect and reconnect when getting closer to my destination, which is what I've been doing, but being able to stay connected to the network would be a nice plus.
