I know that this isn't a radical opinion - a lot of people have pointed out that Lia and Sophie's respective design styles are very 'Next friendly', and the prize being a homeware collection makes it pretty obvious that actual room design isn't that important anymore. But since winning, Lia is now posting a bunch of adverts on instagram (Nkuku, Malfy Gin), she also has a new 'supper club' which seems to be mostly about advertising her homeware line. She's been signed by a talent agency who are encouraging people to 'work with' Lia. It just feels as if, like everything, it's become more about branding and capitalism and it's just depressing. She is obviously still doing interior design and she isn't the only one using Instagram to improve her reach, but the era of social media seems to have fundamentally changed the competition for the worse. (I'll still watch it though 😂)
