indoor figs doing something weird
I've only ever successfully overwintered figs my first year, and since then every time something goes wrong, they get gnats even though they're not overly wet and are only watered once a month while dormant in the walled off area behind the house, etc..they just don't bounce back. This last summer they came back but never bore fruit. They were in a spot where they got great sun, were fertilized with trifecta plus once every two weeks, sometimes with a little extra phosphorus added in, were kept consistently but not overly watered. All things that worked great the first year and then never again.
This last fall I decided to just bring them inside and put them under a mixed LED to see if they would actually bear fruit. After about a month they did -- one of them has 7, another has 16, another one has 22...but they've been on the branches for a couple months and never ripened. These are all dark fig breeds but the figs are still green (a little speckled now) and have been since February or March. One of them has all these stalled barely-purple figs on it and just started sending up another shoot from the base of the trunk. The leaves look great. Do still have a chronic issue with gnats that I can't seem to get rid of, though that's abated some recently.
I freely admit that I am an idiot. That's fine. But does anyone know why this happened? They're warm, they're getting good light, regular watering and light fertilizer.
