Escape from research

Hi all,

I studied physics for almost 10 years, all the way up to a Ph.D. Currently working in a job I hate as a R&D scientist. I want out so bad. The job market doesn't help, I made huge mistake when I chose physics... I hope I will bounce back but currently physics is not valuable and people don't care.

I am trying to transition in anything that can make me leave research and live a normal life away from fucking papers.

I tried quant, didn't pass the OAs, I tried software development but apparently I don't have the experience and AI is crazy good right now. I tried consulting and I didn't make it to the big firms as Mckinsey etc...

I have applied to 600+ applications in 6 months. I would work in any western developed country...

Last choice is focus on AI engineering but engineers will eat me alive. I wish I could go back and study MEng BUT I don't have the time....

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Hi I come from a poor EU country. I will apply to YC. I have the MVP, but no users or revenue. How possible is to pass ?

For context, I am not a wonderkind, no Harvard/MIT just an MVP that I built and thinking of going yolo. I am an ambitious late 20s guy trying to find his purpose.

Hi all,

I have been trying to go into quant finance but I am too idiot to break it into the field.

I think I will try sports betting quant now. I have been betting through my whole life and now I want to gain from it and apply the knowledge in a job.

How should I approach potential employers? Cold emails, connects? Maybe showing up in the company?

I am in a really tough position, in a job that I hate in physics research and I want out.

Any people that also made the jump from research to sports quant and then quant finance would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I started applying for jobs in UK, I have 2 years experience in research but right now I am transitioning to data science.

How easy is to gain the high skilled visa and immigrate in UK? Does the Ph.D. give extra bonus points?

PS I am an EU citizen.
