new to creating ambient music with guitar! gear recommendations?

Hey everyone, just what the title says! I don't currently have a guitar. I've been borrowing my roomate's epiphone. I've been considering getting my own guitar and investing in a pedal or two, though. I have a couple of questions and I was curious if anyone here has feedback.

  1. Since I also play acoustic guitar I wouldn't mind getting something acoustic electric. Would that work just as well as a straight up electric guitar? I'm considering Ovations since they seem like a bit of a middle ground. Any feedback about this is appreciated!
  2. pedals. I was looking at the mooer ocean machine (I'm a Devin Townsend fan, lol). I mean, regardless of that, I was curious what people think of that pedal. Or if you have another pedal or two you would rather invest in, and why.
  3. any other gear recommendations!

Thanks!!

How to deal with repeated, subtle proselytization from family

I figure this is a common topic to appear in this sub, but I guess I'll post anyway.

I don't make a big deal about being Buddhist to my family but my mom makes a big deal about being Christian so sometimes the topic of faith comes up. When it does, I tend to imply lightly that, while I don't have any problem with what she believes, I believe something slightly different. There are a lot of similarities but it isn't the same thing.

Recently she keeps bringing up heaven, talking about all the good qualities of heaven. It's like she's trying to sell Christianity to me or something. It doesn't bother me exactly, but it rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Since I was raised Christian, I see the inherent "fear" of not going to heaven and believing the "wrong thing". I think my mom has that fear about me. I try to avoid the subject because getting distance between myself and those kinds of beliefs has been helpful. I love my Mom but I want to make sure I am delicate about this. I don't want to upset her apple cart, but I can't tell her I'm precisely Christian.

Ok, so what is my actual question? I'm not exactly sure. I don't agree with some of the key sticking points of Christianity as a religion, it doesn't work for me. Buddhism does. The way I see it, Christians believe in Jesus to achieve something similar to, say, Buddhists who believe in Amitabha, right? Or is that a totally wrong take? I haven't done much practice surrounding Amitabha so I don't know. It sounds like the practice is developing a mental familiarity with an archetype that will guide your consciousness in a positive direction upon death, and preferably to a good place (heaven or pure land, etc). I don't think explaining that to my mom would help, it might even make it worse. Because Christians have a big fear of believing in anything other than Christ. It's idol worship and all that. I don't know.

It's a weird feeling. Like, I don't want to let my mom down and have her believe I don't want to go to heaven. I mean, logically, sure. I would want to go to heaven I guess? why not. It's more that it isn't my main goal. My main goal is mind training and helping other sentient beings. If going to a heaven or a pure land type place will facilitate that, then I guess that's fine. But it isn't my focus for some reason? I'm just curious what this post causes people to say, if anything. Advice, similar experiences, thoughts, guidance. Whatever.

How do we transport newly purchased vehicles in MD?

Title is the question but I'll elaborate.

Basically I want to buy a car from someone who lives about an 1.5 hours away from me but I don't have a trailer. I'm trying to figure out if there is an easy way to do this. As it stands my understanding is you have to get the title in order to get insurance and temporary tag? But this feels awkward and strange. I was wondering what other people do, what other options are there. Hire a tow truck?

Thanks!!
