Songs of the Day #1 and #2 - Megalithic Symphony & Some Sort of Creature

Songs of the Day #1 and #2 - Megalithic Symphony & Some Sort of Creature

Alright, we're going to try this thing out. Some tracks might get a lot of discussion and others hardly anything, and that's OK.

Welcome to the first AWOLNATION Song of the Day post and discussion! We will be going through AWOL's entire discography, beginning with Megalithic Symphony and concluding with The Phantom Five. Discussion can be focused on, but not limited to, things such as:

  • What you like or dislike about the song
  • Favorite part of the song or anything you would change
  • Song structure, music theory, etc.
  • Vocals, instrumentals, etc.
  • Feelings or memories you associate with the song

My goal is to do three Song of the Day posts per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays).

To kick things off, we're starting with the first two tracks on Megalithic Symphony as they're shorter tracks.

Megalithic Symphony (Megalithic Symphony) - https://youtu.be/XwnUdhFeKlY?si=PJ0Q68kv2iFlOybs

Some Sort of Creature (Megalithic Symphony) - https://youtu.be/2rz0d-85eAU?si=qTBazkHLVTIp6_L5

As an album, Megalithic Symphony feels more to me like a collection of bangers than a cohesive album. With that said, I feel that the title track "Megalithic Symphony" is an appropriate introduction to what we’re about to experience, and I like the “AWOLNATION” robotic voice. I believe they used to play this at the beginning of their shows very early on.

I don’t really have any thoughts on “Some Sort of Creature”. Aaron has mentioned that it's based on something that happened to him, but nothing more. If you went to any of the shows in 2025 for The Phantom Five Tour, I really liked that they played distorted audio for Some Sort of Creature as the guys came out on stage before transitioning into Jump Sit Stand March. You can hear it pretty well in the first 35 seconds of this video, which is a video of the full show played in Warsaw, Poland. Big shoutout to the ‘I Saw It Live’ YT channel for posting this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SNtIWEivL4&list=RD3SNtIWEivL4&start_radio=1&t=1500s

Any interest in going through AWOL's entire discography through a recurring song of the day or week post?

I've seen other music artist subs do a recurring song of the day or week post where they go through the artist's entire discography. I was thinking it would be fun to do that here, starting with Megalithic Symphony and going all the way through The Phantom Five. Would anyone be interested in this? If so, a daily thing? Weekly? Multiple times per week?

The idea would be to post the song and then discussion/comments could be centered around things like:

  • What you like about the song
  • What you dislike about the song
  • Favorite or least favorite part of the song
  • How the song makes you feel or any memories associated with it
  • Song structure - getting into music theory

I'd love to take this on if there's enough interest!

Got to see Barbarians again!

They absolutely kicked ass again. Easily the best and most fun of the openers for Poison The Well. Makes me happy to see Aaron and the guys having so much fun with this project. Fingers crossed we’re still getting one or two new AWOL singles and maybe that stripped down/acoustic record this year.

▲ 1 r/tax

I'm the beneficiary on a paid up life insurance policy. If I were to cash out the policy, the current value is $14,271. I requested a taxable gain quote from the policy provider. The cost basis is $6,779 and the taxable gain is $7,492. I'm a noob on this stuff, so I wanted to confirm that the $7,492 is what would be subject to tax? And is that tax amount based on the tax bracket that I'm in? So if I'm in the 24% bracket, I could expect the tax to be $1,798? Any insight/clarification is appreciated!
