Respect Eridians (Project Hail Mary)

Respect Eridians (Project Hail Mary)

Hailing from the planet known to humans as 40 Eridani A b (or more simply just Erid), Eridians are an intelligent species that live under intense pressure in an air of ammonia. When their sun started to be cooled by an alien microorganism, they discovered one star that bore the signature light caused by the Astrophage yet none of the cooling, leading to them building a spacecraft in hopes of uncovering a secret that would save their planet.

”Machines break. Show me. I fix.”

One of twenty three Eridians sent on the trip to Tau Ceti, Rocky was the group’s mechanic, sleeping within the depths of the ship by their Astrophage fuel source. By luck this protected him from the radiation of space, something the Eridians did not know of and therefore did not account for while building the Blip-A, making him the only survivor as the others died from radiation poisoning. He would complete the trip to the star alone where he would meet up with an alien from the planet Earth, Ryland Grace, and the two would work together to save both their species.

Respect Yuri (Infinite Space)

"I guess I've been waiting."
"Waiting?"
"Yeah, waiting for the day someone in the LMC would finally face the fact that their galaxy is threatened by a powerful force. The day they realize that no matter how hard they try to keep people quiet or keep their heads in the sand, there's just no getting out of it. That's why you brought me here, right? Because I know what happened back in the SMC."

Living on a planet where space travel was forbidden Yuri nevertheless longed for the stars, spending all his money to have a spacefarer (also known as a zero-G dog) to take the risk to carry him away. Becoming a zero-G dog himself and a captain of his own ship at the age of 16, Yuri found himself thrust into the midst of numerous interplanetary conflicts to the point of being at the centre of a large-scale invasion from another system. Though he was locked away following this as the government attempted to keep the assault quiet, he would eventually break free to once again become a key figure in the shifting landscape of the universe, going as far as to fend off the very species that first granted humanity a path to the stars as it sought to bring the universe back to zero.

Feats tagged [Anime] come from one of the four anime shorts released alongside the game. Feats tagged [Man] come from Yuri the Man, the second act of the game occurring after a ten year time skip.

Respect Scorpina (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)

An old ally of Rita Repulsa, Scorpina was recruited to her plans to destroy the Power Rangers after the enslaved Tommy Oliver fell to them for the first time. While the Green Ranger would eventually be turned to the side of good, Scorpina would remain on the team, often joining Goldar as extra muscle to fight the heroes until the return of Lord Zedd. Dissatisfied with her lot, however, she would attempt to steal some of Rita’s spellbooks only to be discovered and trapped in another dimension. When a wave of energy removed all the evil from the Ranger’s enemies, the dimension’s ruler sent the unaffected Scorpina back to Earth to act in her stead, where she would come into conflict with both Tommy Oliver and his son.

Respect the Matango (Matango)

Caught in a sudden storm, an eclectic group of sailors and passengers found themselves capsized on an uninhabited island. Hearing the search for them had been called off in the final seconds of their radio’s power, they searched the island for any form of supplies, shelter, or life, finding two of them in an abandoned ship carrying equipment from all corners of the world. On this boat they found out about the matango, a species of mushroom the ship’s occupants were researching before their disappearance. But as supplies dwindle and tensions flare, each of them would ultimately discover that what they thought to be a regular fungi was actually a malicious force that sought to spread by having people consume it.

Respect Curtis Metcalf, Hardware (Milestone, Dakotaverse)

”I can never undo the evil I’ve committed in the name of my vendetta. I can’t make up for what I’ve done. But I can live up to my ideals from now on. I can do better. And so can Hardware. First it was about vengeance. From now on, it’s gonna be about justice.”

As a child Curtis Metcalf had a pet parakeet, one that broke free of its cage and repeatedly ram into a window until it collapsed, mistaking being out of his cage for being free. Curtis would find himself living a similar life, having his education funded by the tech mogul Edwin Alva only to discover he was locked into a contract with no escape for a member of the criminal underworld who was too big to take down through the legal system. Working beneath Alva’s nose, Curtis would create the first Hardware suit from the very tech his team was developing, using it each night to put a stop to Alva’s criminal endeavors. Time would progress and the cage would change, never truly being able to escape the shadow of Edwin even after his death. But eventually, Hardware would stop being a pure tool for vengeance, and instead become one for justice as one of Dakota’s leading superheroes.

Respect the Aliens (Plan 9 From Outer Space)

Aliens. They have been here for years, every attempt of communication being squashed by the world’s governments, and now they’ve been forced to resort to Plan 9. From outer space these aliens have watched humanity quickly progress in the creation of explosives from the firecracker to the atom bomb, and realized that we must be persuaded away from our path before we come across a weapon capable of detonating sunlight itself and destroy the universe before being able to know better. The common sense stratagem for this, after simple radio transmissions and UFO sightings failed the trick, was to raise the recently deceased in a small American town with the intention to build up an army to storm the world’s capitols and force people to acknowledge their existence.

Respect Astrophage (Project Hail Mary)

“What would you call an organism that exists on a diet of stars?”
I struggled to remember my Greek and Latin root words. “I think you’d call it ‘Astrophage.’”

Earth first discovered alien life through a faint light in space. It then discovered that said alien life was working towards its destruction. But instead of an actively hostile intelligent force, it took the form of microorganisms. The Astrophage travels from star to star, feasting on its energy before travelling to a nearby planet with high CO2 concentrations to reproduce and continuing the process indefinitely. In doing so it both contains unbelievable amounts of energy within itself and notably cools the star in question, threatening the life of any species that may be inhabiting nearby planets. The sole exception to this is Tau Ceti, a star with perceivable Astrophage yet no energy loss, leading several affected species to send out spaceships in desperate hopes of being able to save themselves.

Respect Ryland Grace and the Hail Mary (Project Hail Mary)

Doctor Ryland Grace thought his life in high-end academia was over, a paper arguing that extraterrestrial life may not be water-based being the final nail in the coffin. But it was this paper that led him to be picked up a newly discovered life form that had started to devour the sun’s energy, the Astrophage. Insisting he continued to research the microorganism even after concluding it had a water-based biology Grace was put on the team of Project Hail Mary, a crew creating a spaceship to travel to the one star confirmed to have Astrophage and not undergo any energy reduction in hopes of finding a means to save the planet. Made part of the crew following an accident days before launch, the only survivor through his companions suffering untreatable maladies, and waking up with near complete amnesia, Grace nevertheless overcame all hurdles and worked with another lone survivor of an alien species in order to save both of their planets.

Respect Harvey Elder, the Mole Man (Marvel Comics, 616)

Born short, ugly, and with poor eyesight, Harvey Elder was ridiculed for most of his life before he travelled the planet in search of a land beneath the surface. He would find it, stumbling across the brilliant Valley of Diamonds, blinding him in the process. Proclaiming himself the Mole Man, the ruler of his newfound kingdom of Subterranea, Harvey would develop both highly attuned senses to compensate for his blindness and mastery over the various creatures that resided within it. Eventually, he decided to get revenge on the world that had shunned him, attempting to destroy various power plants only to be stopped by the newly-formed Fantastic Four. Since then the Mole Man would have a variety of motivations, seeking to expand his empire, creating a new home for those brilliant but unloved like him, wishing to be left alone, and attempting to find a queen for Subterranea, but in every instance whoever fought him would have to deal with a wide variety of monsters all willing to lay down their lives for him.

Respect Dragon Man (Marvel Comics, 616)

Originally created by a professor at State University, Dragon Man is an android designed as an experiment to create a creature more powerful than anything else. Failing to activate it on his own, the appearance of the alchemist villain Diablo was able to use one of his concoctions to bring the creature to life and use the robot as a weapon against the Fantastic Four. With a mind more akin to that of an animal or child than that of an intelligent killer, though, Dragon Man would become attracted to the Invisible Woman, taking her away before being plunged into a lake frozen by Diablo. After that point Dragon Man would act largely independently, attempting to find a quiet place to live and often only being pitted against heroes through trickery or someone taking direct control of him, until years later he would fall into the possession of the newly-formed Future Foundation. Intelligence dramatically increased at the hands of Valeria Richards, Dragon Man would swear off violence wherever possible to instead act as a teacher and guardian for the children entrusted to him, though he would still use his formidable abilities to keep them safe whenever necessary.

Respect Valeria Von Doom, Marvel Girl (Marvel Comics, Earth-99315)

"You creeps think you're tough? You think you're dangerous? Trust me - you don't know the meaning of those words. But I'm just the person to teach it to you. Who wants the first lesson?"

Due to complications in childbirth stemming from her mother's cosmically irradiated cells, the child named Valerie Richards was stillborn. But that was in Earth-616. In Earth-99315, following the death of Reed Richards and the marriage between a widowed Susan Storm and Victor von Doom, Sue's daughter was born and named Valeria von Doom. The child would grow up happy and loved by both parents only to accidentally find her way back into her past and into the world of Earth-616. Developing a close bond with her family, particularly her older (now younger) brother Franklin, Valeria would be reborn into the world when Franklin caused Sue to become pregnant with Valeria once more following the destruction of Abraxas by the Ultimate Nullifier.

Respect Lyja (Marvel Comics, 616)

In an attempt to take down the Fantastic Four, the Skrull empire came up with a plan to replace close ally Alicia Masters with one of their own, gaining access to their secrets through her relationship to Ben Grimm before it was time to strike. Lyja, a liason officer that had a bad breakup with the commander in charge of the operation, was chosen for the role and spent months learning how to function as the blind artist. But when the swap was made she found out that while Mister Fantastic and the Human Torch returned from Battleworld, the Thing had opted to stay. Needing to find a new route in, Lyja would get close to Johnny Storm, developing a relationship that would ultimately turn into a marriage as she realised she truly loved the superhero. Their relationship would not last following the reveal of her true identity, however, and after a period of attempting to reintegrate herself into his life both as herself and under the guise of Laura Green Lyja would ultimately spend time off Earth attempting to discover herself.

Respect Darla Deering, Miss Thing (Marvel Comics, 616)

"Thing rings, do your thing."

A world famous pop star before her mid-teens, Darla Deering didn't enter the superhero business until she started dating Johnny Storm. Forgetting he needed to find a temporary replacement while the Fantastic Four spent some family time together throughout time and space, he asked Darla to cover his spot, assuring her it would only be four minutes until he returned. When the team failed to reappear as scheduled, she unexpectedly found herself as a lead member of the Future Foundation long-term. Donning one of the exosuits Reed created while Ben Grimm was without his powers, Darla took the moniker of Miss Thing to fight threats as needed, keeping the suit afterwards and staying a member of the Fantastic Four's reserve team.

Respect Bentley-23 (Marvel Comics, 616)

"You know what's dumb? Morality. Good and evil are for people without imagination."

In part of yet another plan to try and defeat the Fantastic Four, Bentley Wittman opted to clone himself multiple times. The plan was ultimately a failure and led to the Wizard's arrest, but the twenty third clone of the batch was brought in by Reed Richards. Seeing the newly created Future Foundation as the best home for him, Reed sought to give the clone a better life and upbringing, believing that this may be a way to allow the boy's brilliant mind to be used constructively without being forced by both nature and nurture to a life of evil. His success in the matter is up for debate, as Bentley-23 frequently talks about his fondness for villains, desire to build villainous devices such as death rays, and intent to prove himself superior to his father. Despite all this, he also sees himself as beyond the binary of good and evil, and worked alongside the FF for years in their quest to solve everything.

Respect the Griever at the End of All Things (Marvel Comics)

"Time? Time is on my side, child. I am the end of all things. Eventually all must fall before me. No matter how hard you try."

Entropy. Heat death. The end of all things. In the Marvel universe, all these aspects take the form of a single concept, with that concept appearing before people as the Griever at the End of All Things. Knowing herself as inevitable, that doesn't stop the Griever from stepping in to ensure the eventual end will come, first doing so to the Future Foundation after they had spent years recreating the previously destroyed multiverse. In both this and a following encounter the Griever couldn't be defeated, only being persuaded to leave without any other option remaining to her. She would later make attempts on the Scarlet Witch's life, seeing her as a potential threat to her inevitable truth, but after Wanda's death failed to stick she was ultimately dispersed across time, not to reconstitute herself again for millions of years.

#Featuring the Four Horsemen

When the Nephilim invaded Eden, in order to maintain balance, four were chosen to commit genocide against the rest of their own kind. Those four, adopting the names of War, Death, Fury, and Strife, would become known as the Horsemen. Working under a group known as the Council they would act independent of heaven and hell, carrying out the Council's wishes to ensure the balance of powers between realms remained stable. This would come to a sudden stop when six of the seven seals holding back the apocalypse were broken, and War was fooled into taking up arms and shouldering the blame for the effective extermination of humanity. Over the next century each of the Horsemen would find their own paths, gathering once more when War broke the seventh seal and brought them together to face the corrupted Council.

#Using the Four Horsemen on WhoWouldWin

For the most part, we see the Horsemen all acting independently of each other on their individual goals. While they do still work alongside each other on occasion, primarily through War and Death attempting to stop the truce between heaven and hell from breaking and War and Strife being sent on a mission to investigate Lucifer's actions, even then they rarely do combo attacks in favour of mowing down hordes of enemies next to each other. As such, teamwork isn't much of a factor, and you should treat them as individual opponents simultaneously facing whatever team you put them against.
