Is there any way to make shiplap look more boho/natural/botanical versus modern farmhouse or shabby chic?

I’m doing a project and I want to use shiplap because it’s soooo easy but I don’t really like the styles it’s associated with.

Here are my reference pictures. I want the first picture to be styled like the second picture.
