Before you downvote me, hear me out.

Delaying the trailer on its announced date doesn't look good. Now there are rumors (not confirmed) that it wasn't even shown at SDCC either. Whether that's true or not, it makes people wonder if the team is actually confident in the product.

Namit announcing a ₹4000 crore budget for both films was a marketing blunder. The moment he said that, expectations went crazy. People started expecting Hollywood-level VFX. Then the whole Avatar level comparison made it even worse.

When the Rama glimpse got criticized, they invited creators. Those same creators said the team took their feedback and was working on improving the visuals.

Then they screened the trailer at Bharat Mandapam, and we're hearing the same criticism again from some creators that parts of the VFX still look lackluster.

Before anyone says "Vfx is still being worked on till release," that's true for every movie. Every big film keeps polishing shots until the last minute. But we don't see most movies putting obviously weak CGI in their trailers and then magically fixing everything before release.

if you're cutting a 3-4 minute trailer and can't find even 4-5 consistently good-looking CGI shots, that's not a good sign. Either those are the best shots they've finished so far, or whoever cut the trailer has no clue what they're doing.

The biggest problem isn't just the VFX. It's that the team created insane expectations and now they're struggling to meet them.

I genuinely don't think they can bring the movie up to the level people expect in under three months. I'd rather they delay it to later next year and release a finished product instead of rushing it.

If Varanasi releases in April and gets a good reception because of SSR, that'll only help Ramayana internationally as well. Sure, delaying will cost them money, but that's still better than releasing a movie with inconsistent VFX especially when they keep shoving the 8 time Oscar winner title on our face.

I'd rather wait another year than watch them waste the potential of what could've been an all time great Indian film.
