In honor of Tiny Tina Tuesday, I am sharing a tiny gift from my chickens. Our very first fairy egg! This mini green egg was laid towards the end of April. (The light brown egg is a regular-sized chicken egg for scale.)

Last summer, Council passed legislation introduced by Councilmember Warwick which exempts people planting vegetation native to Pennsylvania from the city’s ban on plant growth more than 10 inches high on residential properties. https://ecode360.com/47050985#47050985

Now, registration is open for properties with rain gardens, pollinator gardens or native gardens! Registration is voluntary and is meant to prevent City inspectors from mistaking native gardens for the kinds of weeds which are prohibited by City code, and issuing incorrect citations.

Cultivating native gardens in place of turfgrass lawns improves our local biodiversity, air quality and water quality. To register your managed natural landscape with the City, click [the link in this Reddit post], and if you have any questions, please email EnvironmentalEnforcement@pittsburghpa.gov.
