Master of Puppets / Reign in Blood People who were around in 1986, what was it actually like hearing these albums for the first time?

Both dropped in the same year, but do they feel like completely different beasts?

I’m especially curious about the context back then.

If u heard both around release, how did u compare them back then? Did one feel more important or more groundbreaking? Which one hit harder on first listen, and which one stayed with u longer over the years?

Also curious how big the hype actually was around both bands before those albums came out. Were Metallica already viewed as future giants? Was Slayer considered more underground or dangerous?

Would love replies from ppl who genuinely experienced that era firsthand, sitting with the cassettes, vinyl or CDs, hearing these albums with fresh ears before they became untouchable classics

I've known RHCP since the mid '90s, when I was just a kid, back when I was headbanging, air-bassing, and doing some questionable singing in the shower. I still remember the very first RHCP track that wrecked my lil brain 'Give It Away' Heard it once and was like yep, this is my whole personality now, u know? Many good memories and stuff. Here's my personal top-tier list. Honestly, it was very tough to make, though. I meditated, I went full souldiver mode, argued with myself like a lunatic (I won, obviously), made peace with my inner chaos, and finally... finally somehow emerged with a conclusion!
