why on earth is Taylor Hall an MVP?
hi reddit!
i’m from the dallas area and i used to be a huge hockey fan. when i moved away in 2016 and it got harder to follow the Stars i stopped following the sport. i’ve missed out on a lot of world events in that window.
recently i was looking at the list of recent nhl mvps for reasons i don’t remember and i saw Taylor Hall has a Hart trophy. and like. what?
at first i thought i had been away from the sport for so long that i had forgotten what the hart trophy is. i thought i was getting it confused with the rocket richard or art ross trophy or something. or maybe i was getting Hall mixed up with a different, better player. there was NO WAY that taylor hall won MVP.
but he did? and i don’t get it. i looked up the season. he was nowhere close to leading the league in points or goals or assists. his team was an eighth seed, and not a sneaky good eighth seed. they snuck in by 1 point and won 1 playoff game. and unless taylor hall rebuilt his entire game while i wasn’t looking, he damn sure didn’t win off of his defense. when i was watching the guy was famously one dimensional.
why would they give MVP to a dude who was neither the best offensive player nor the best two way player nor on the best team? or even on a good team? it just does not make sense. i feel like i’m missing something obvious here.
