Mounting 2x4 backer for a heavy-duty wall tire rack — Structural Screws vs. Standard Wood Screws?
Hey everyone,
I'm mounting a 2x4 backer board to my garage wall studs to support a wall-mounted tire rack (holding ~200–300 lbs total).
A couple of quick questions:
Structural Screws vs. Wood Screws: Should I strictly use structural screws (e.g., GRK or Simpson Strong-Tie) instead of standard wood screws to handle the continuous shear weight?
Screw Length: Are 4-inch screws the right size? (1.5" wood + 0.5" drywall + 2" stud embedment)
