Got a deal on a Magpul Hunter X-22 Stock for Ruger 10/22 for $50. I'm just looking for something for my 9-year-old kids to plink at the range. Are there any benefits or cost savings from buying individual parts, or should I just buy a decent used 10/22 and swap the stock?

Edit: I'd like them to shoot irons, but I will certainly want to add an optic in the near future.
