New Jersey HSA employer contribution taxation

I was looking over last year's (2025) W-2 from my Fortune 500 employer and noticed that the difference in totals for "NJ state wages" and "federal wages" was exactly $3,800, which equates to the totals of my own contributions to my HSA through the cafeteria plan ($3,500) and medical coverage ($300) for the year.

However, my employer also contributed to my HSA ($1,800) which resulted in contributing the maximum to my HSA for the year ($5,300 for over age 55).

So it looks like my employer did not include the $1,800 that they contributed to my HSA in my 2025 NJ taxable income.

Does anyone know if this is correct? Does anyone else's employer in NJ do the same? Was I supposed to add that $1,800 as additional income on my NJ income tax return since it is not included in "NJ state wages" on my W-2?

Roth IRA Withdrawal Rules "cheat sheet"

I’ve been researching the withdrawal rules for Roth IRAs, and I have to say... there’s a lot of misinformation out there, even from sources that should know better.

For example, I watched three different YouTube videos on the 5‑year rules from people presenting themselves as financial advisors. In my view, two of the three got key points wrong. It’s a small sample, but still concerning.

I’ve also reviewed various articles and guides on Roth IRA withdrawals. Many of them either leave out details that I think are important, present the information in a confusing way, or (again, in my opinion) get certain things wrong.

Because of that, I decided to create my own "cheat sheet" summarizing the Roth IRA withdrawal rules. I focused on the areas that were initially confusing to me and tried to present them as clearly and simply as possible. In particular, the two 5‑year rules aren’t actually that complicated, but they’re often explained in ways that make them seem much more complex than they are.

I’ve uploaded a PDF of the "cheat sheet" to archive.org. I’d really appreciate any feedback or corrections. Hopefully, it helps others who are trying to make sense of Roth IRA withdrawals.

Note: If you download it, be sure to select the PDF version, as it’s the original file. The other formats are automatically generated and may have formatting issues or missing content.
