[Hiring] [Budget: 600-750USD] Key Art + Character Design | Commercial Project | No AI

Pigment Miniatures Show is looking for an illustrator to create the key art for next year's show.

Budget: $600–$750 USD maximum.

This is a small-run project for an independent miniature painting show. We are looking for an artist who is excited by the concept and whose existing work is a strong fit.

THE CONCEPT

This year's Pigment Show hero character is a trumpet-playing mariachi.

The key art should show him playing his trumpet and bringing vibrant color to an otherwise monochrome world.

The image should communicate transformation, creativity, joy, and the power of art.

We are intentionally leaving the visual interpretation open. We want the artist to determine how the color, music, transformation, environment, and composition work together.

DELIVERABLES

1. Finished key art

One polished illustration suitable for use on t-shirts (DTG printed), convention badges, website, social media, and other promotional materials.

2. Character design

The hero character needs a distinctive, memorable design that works both in the illustration and as a physical miniature. The selected artist will provide enough character reference for a professional sculptor to create a physical miniature based on the design.

This does not need to be an extensive concept-art package. We are looking for practical reference showing the character's important visual details, costume, equipment and proportions.

3. Final files

High-resolution production files suitable for the uses above. Layered/source files are preferred.

RIGHTS

This is a commercial commission, but it is a small-run project. We expect approximately 50 T-shirts to be sold. The resulting miniature is intended to break even rather than generate significant profit.

Pigment needs the right to reproduce the artwork on Pigment merchandise and promotional materials and to provide the character design to a sculptor selected by Pigment for creation of a physical miniature.

We are looking for a commercial license covering the specific uses above. Please identify any licensing limitations or additional fees in your quote.

NO AI

Pigment has a strict no-AI-art policy.

All commissioned artwork must be created by the artist without generative AI or AI-generated/AI-assisted imagery being incorporated into the final work. WIP images and time lapse videos may be requested.

Please explicitly confirm this when applying.

Echo Base Defenders / Blizzard Force - Keep or Return?

Hi, I have some newbie questions.

My wife and I picked up copies of the two newer Hoth box sets, since they were 15% off MSRP at our local game store and we were lured in by limited sculpts. We are mostly miniature painters, but as big Star Wars fans we may end up wanting to play some games.

Should we keep them and expand the factions out from here (goal is to eventually get to 2000 points), or should I return them, get the core sets, and build out from there? I ask from an army building perspective, since one or both of us may want to play games outside of home games. Are there units I won't be using in the boxes that make them suboptimal? Aesthetically they are cool, but expanding the army more means mixing normal gear and winter gear.

I know the boxes we got means we will need to buy an Essentials Kit, but is there anything else that would come with a core box that is missing?
