Join our next livestream: Building Custom Shops and UI for In-Island Transactions.
Tuesday, August 25 at 2 PM ET.

Shop UI shapes how players engage with in-island transactions. Derek Diaz, UI/UX Director at Epic Games, walks through menu patterns for different kinds of shops—from category-heavy inventories to simpler, focused layouts—and how to handle what players see after they complete a purchase.

Derek's UI examples land in the Snippets Repository on the Epic Developer Community after the stream.

Join our next livestream: Pricing and packaging your in-island transactions on August 11

In-island transactions add a new revenue stream on top of engagement payouts, and pricing your offers well is a design practice, not a one-time decision. We’ll walk through frameworks for setting prices and packaging items: a three-tier price structure (entry, mid, and premium), different pricing logic for durables vs. consumables, and when bundling actually serves your players better than individual offers.

New to in-island transactions? Catch up with our Getting Started livestream:

Tune in on August 11 at 2 PM ET!
After the stream, a bundle creation example will be published to the Snippets Repository on the Epic Developer Community.

Enrollment in the Fortnite Developer Program is now easier than ever

Hi everyone,

Enrollment in the Fortnite Developer Program is now easier than ever.

We've updated the Fortnite Developer Program to make it faster and easier for new developers to join and start receiving payouts.

What’s changed:

Enroll now, set up payments later: Tax and Hyperwallet account setup is no longer required to enroll. New developers can receive payouts in V-Bucks in their Developer Wallet right away. From there, they can spend V-Bucks in Fortnite or convert their balance to real money once they’ve completed their Tax ID and Hyperwallet setup.

Simpler eligibility: New developers must meet one of the following in the last 365 days:

* Make any real-money purchase through Epic Payments (Epic Games Store, Fab.com, Fortnite.com, or Fortnite on PC). Gift card balance and Epic Account Balance purchases don't qualify.

OR

* Spend and redeem at least $20 USD in Fortnite on any platform.

For more information, visit the Fortnite Developer Program documentation. https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/fortnite/fortnite-developer-program

These changes are only for new developers and do not apply if you’ve already enrolled in the Fortnite Developer Program.

This post on EDC picks up where that talk left off: what's live now, what's shipping in the next few days, and what's coming over the next few weeks:

New mobile tools in this release include PointerZoom for pinch-to-zoom gesture support (Experimental) and expanded touchscreen control actions for Developer Customizable Touchscreen Controls—ready to use in published islands.

Conversations has exited Experimental—you can now publish islands with LLM-powered NPCs and characters. A subset of Fortnite IP characters, including Peely, Midas, and Brite Bomber, are now locked to their voices and personas. If you're building with conversations, a new conversations tab in Creator Portal surfaces charts and metrics to help you understand how players are engaging with the feature.

New content includes the Shaken Sanctuary Secret Facility Prefab, Greenhouse Prefab, and five galleries.

Fortnite Ecosystem v41.20

Control Rig support for Sidekicks is now available with v41.20. Built on the same rig structures Epic uses internally, you can now animate Dog Large, Dog Small, and Cat Small archetypes with the same tools that power the game itself. Starting July 23, you can also publish Fortnite islands featuring Sidekicks and the new Creatures-themed assets. Remember to select the “Creatures” tag when publishing a creature-based game so it can show up in the Game Collection.

LLM conversations transform an NPC into a character capable of unscripted dialogue and interactions with players. In v41.20, we’ve added consistent voices and personas to 36 Fortnite characters when used as NPCs, with more coming over time. On July 30, conversations will exit experimental and you’ll be able to publish islands with LLM-powered NPCs and characters. https://www.fortnite.com/news/publish-islands-with-llm-conversations-starting-july-30

In-world UMG Widgets are now available, so you can drag UI elements directly into the viewport or prefab editor. New content includes the Bank Shot Pistol, Smoke Grenade, Friend Zone item, and a set of Sinister Strip prefabs and galleries.
