What's your happy news this week?

There's so much doom and gloom in the air at the moment. It doesn't help that it feels like winter and the bugs have dragged on for ages.

What's your ray of sunshine? What's a good thing that happened to you or that you've seen? Your silver lining?

Picked up a $1? Got a free coffee? Someone made space for you in traffic? You got the job? Got a new pet? Baby born?

Happy news only. Share the love.

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander - rear shocks & brakes

I'm after a quick sense check.

99,500km on the odometer. Diesel, if that makes a difference. Drove 8,000km in the last 12 months (between WOFs). Car still drives like a dream, no issues.

Not a dealership, reliable mechanic (not backyard) who I've been going to for years.

Got through the latest WOF without any issues but they said that the left rear shock is damp and showing signs of it leaking. Will likely have to be replaced before the next WOF in a year's time. Estimate of $1,600.

I got my brakes replaced (and skimmed?) in Feb 2025. Whatever work would add up to $1,300. Notes on the WOF say that the rear brakes are starting to get low. We occasionally (every 3-4 months) tow a trailer to take garden rubbish away. We tow the trailer 2-3 times a year for camping.

Also due for a service in the next few months at ~$650.

  1. Are the quotes for the rear shocks and brakes reasonable?

  2. Do brakes wear thin in under 10,000 km?
