Hi all,

I lead a prog death metal band. We include melodic vocals and background vocals too. We are not professional singers but we can do reasonable cleans.

The problem in a live setup is that the vocals and background vocals sometimes seem super false and off note. Sometimes vocals are consistently off as if we wouldn't hear ourselves well enough or rather the underlying base pitch. Do mind, distorted guitars are not always easy to hear the base note out.

We use in-ear monitors so we have quite some flexibility to fix this somehow. Every band member gets their own IEM mix.

What could we do to improve the issue? How do professional bands deal with such a situation?
