I really hate doing this, but I want to give anyone interested in graduate level research in the field of music cognition a warning: do not work with Edward Large

Speaking anonymously, I worked for Dr. Large as a grad student. He is a huge name in the field of music research, and I have seen a lot of students want to work with him because of his reputation. However, based on my personal experience and the experience of others, I have to do my due diligence and say that he is not a good person to work with. Frankly, he should not be in a position to mentor students. He's a bad advisor. Very few people have finished their PhD's working in his lab. He's not focused on helping you achieve your goals, he's mostly in it to further his own research and interests. Even after multiple years I was not able to publish with him, even after mostly completing a paper. Furthermore, he has acted very inappropriately towards female students, in a way that goes way beyond the occasional joke that goes too far. I really hate doing this, I don't want to be someone posting bad stuff about someone anonymously. But multiple people have complained to the correct administration bodies about this, and nothing has happened. I don't want anyone else to have to go through what me and many others have gone though. So I will be blunt: if you are considering having Dr. Large as your advisor...don't. It's not worth it.
