Vinyl Flooring

I am preparing to replace the carpet in my living room with 20mill vinyl flooring. There is this section where the carpet wraps down around the subfloor.

I peaked down under the carpet there and it seems as if it’s just a furring strip underneath it screwed into the subfloor. The furring strip seems easily removable if needed.

Any ideas on what to use here in order to make it look good with vinyl flooring? I’ve read about stair nose trim, but I’m not sure it’s be wide enough.

Also, when it comes to vinyl around the balusters for my stair railing. I won’t know until the carpet is removed if there is space to slide the vinyl under neath. What’s the best option to get the vinyl around the balusters?

I’m guessing either trying to go under or notch around and caulk the gaps.

Thanks in advance.
