Testing the homemade bellows I posted earlier

A few people asked to see the bellows in action, so I tried it with the forge today.

It works — and it gets the charcoal burning surprisingly quickly.

I made a very short video of it in action.

Forged a pair of wall hooks for my spear

I forged a pair of simple wall hooks for my spear.
I used bolts and forge-welded cap nuts onto the ends, then forged and bent them into shape.

They’re far from perfect — making two matching pieces was much harder than I expected — but I like the handmade look.

I also made a short video of the process.

I made my own bellows for blacksmithing. Any advice for improving it?

I made this bellows for my blacksmithing work.
I'm still learning, so I built it while experimenting with the design.

I made a short video showing the bellows and the inside construction.

If you've built or used bellows before, I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions for improving it.

Here’s a short video showing how it’s built::

I just love kanna — forged the blade myself for a Japanese hand plane

I've always loved kanna (Japanese hand planes), so I decided to forge the blade myself and build the wooden body (dai) by hand. This is my own work.

Still learning — I hesitated a lot when marking the mortise for the blade angle, since reading the grain on the side face was harder than I expected.

"I just love kanna — forging and building a Japanese hand plane (with photos)"

I've always loved using kanna (Japanese hand planes), so I decided to forge my own blade and build the wooden body (dai) myself.

The blade was hand-forged and heat-treated from scratch. I actually struggled quite a bit when marking the mortise for the blade — reading the grain on the side face was harder than expected, and I second-guessed myself a lot at that step.

Still learning, and the shaving results aren't quite where I want them yet, but I'm aiming higher with each piece.
