Hello to our new neighbors! We recently bought a house here and the deck is in serious need of repair as it's borderline-unsafe. The stairs at the very least need replacing, and the support posts may need to be replaced too.

I will likely hire a handyman to help with the repairs. My question is whether I need permits to do these repairs or, as the structure itself will be the same at the end, just with some pieces replaced, if I don't need any formal permits.

I'm also happy to look it up myself if someone can point me to a resource on how to do so, I'm just new in town and would appreciate some help figuring out how to start! Many thanks!
