My transition experience from the 780g to the Flex

I'm now 3 1/2 weeks into my transition from the 780g to the Flex. The experience has been flawless and drama-free. My TIR is consistently higher than on the 780g (I've already documented that in another post), and the operational characteristics are much better. I've had to learn to stop trying to check the pump status by reaching for the pump instead of my phone, but that habit is slowly fading. I can't believe how much the reduction in physical size and weight has made the pump almost unnoticeable in my pants pocket. Also, not having to worry about my 780g battery going from yellow to red at the most inconvenient time is great too. I've had no issues with Simplera Sync connectivity or runtime. I did obtain the App Manager phone for backup when I travel, but other than setting it up for the first time, I haven't used it at all. I'm currently on my Samsung Z Fold 7, Android 16, and I will not update the OS until the phone is compatible with the MiniMed App.

Increased TIR with Flex pump

I migrated from my 780g to the Flex two weeks ago. After the transition of my previous settings and the required 48+ hours to start up SmartGuard, the pump settled in without any hitches. However, now in week two, I've had 6+ days of 100% TIR, which I've never experienced with the 780g in 4 years. My CGM is now Simplera Sync instead of the G4, and the average SG is 122. I wonder if the SmartGuard algorithm has been tweaked to cause this result. Thoughts here?

Switching from 780g to Flex

I just completed the steps to change from my 780g to the Flex. The entire process took about an hour which included the Flex requesting the available system update. Transferring my settings was a breeze. I had already been using the Simplera CGM so there was no additional training requested. I'm really amazed with the reduction of size of the pump without its losing any of its functionality. The upgrade cost of $499 was definitely well spent.

Compression lows

Are the instances of compression lows different with the Instinct or Simplera CGMs than the G4? How has placement of those sensors minimized the occurrences?

MiniMed App compatibility with the Galaxy Fold 7 and Galaxy Fold 8

The MiniMed App still says my Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 isn't compatible, but it may work. The phone is basically the S/25 Ultra (or S/26 Ultra). The application has run properly for months. How long does it take to verify that the phone is working correctly? The Android level is 16 for the Fold 7. The Android level for the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra is 17. The MiniMed software development team should verify the app against the software before it is formally released. This is extremely important when using the Flex pump, as the app is the ONLY interface for managing it. It's no longer optional to wait for weeks for operational certification.

CGM App Receiver for Flex?

It would seem prudent to have this additional IT available should the primary phone become inoperable due to an OS software update. I've had the MiniMed app become unusable when my phone gets updated (yes, I had settings to prevent that, but...) and it took several weeks for the MiniMed app to become compatible again. What is the cost of this additional hardware? Has anyone purchased this even though their phone was compatible? Thanks

G4 Sensor exits warmup then goes to sensor updating then failure

I started a new box of G4 sensors yesterday and encountered an issue that I've never experienced before. I started the first sensor as usual, 2 hour warmup exit, entered SmartGuard, readings were normal for about two hours and then the readings gradually went down to below 50 g and then to updating. I changed out the sensor after recharging the transmitter, 2 hour warmup, normal readings then to sensor updating within two hours! Never had that happen before. Started number 3 sensor and everything is functioning normally. Called tech support to get the entire box of sensors replaced, but they only wanted to replace the two failed ones. I have two more boxes of 5 to use which I think have problems. Ideas?

Flex pump unboxing

I just received my Minimed Flex pump from UPS. The packing sheet listed all the contents of the shipping box, but there was an empty box labeled ACC-500 Pump RTN Foam with no instructions. I assume this is the box I should use to return my 780G to Minimed. Is my assumption correct? Please confirm. Thanks.

CGM accuracy and wear time

The G4 and the Simplera sensors have an effective wear time of 7 days. Other sensors claim 10 to 15 days with reasonable accuracy. I have seen clinical studies that show the initial effect of introducing the sensor into tissue and then the process of "repairing" which starts after 6-7 days. It's the repair process that effectively shuts down the sensor efficacy. I believe that Minimed is being conservative with the wear time. For those of us who have been using the G4 sensor, it is possible, but not recommended, to extend its operational life by resetting the transmitter. Depending on conditions, you might achieve 3 to 4 more operational days before the signal strength of the sensor becomes too low. I'm curious how the Instinct sensor gets to 15 days of wear time and maintaining the needed accuracy. Most probably, the coating on the filament is either thicker or more resilient to maintain the needed electrical output. I've no idea what the appearance of that sensor is after two weeks or how strong the adhesive is. My current experience with the Simplera sensor is that it strikes a balance for me with the extended infusion set change. The adhesive of the sensor is strong and I don't experience any separation of the application from my skin.

Ordered Flex Pump

I placed an order for the Minimed Flex to replace my 780G. Shipping is projected to be October. Once I receive the unit I have 90 days to return my current pump. The upgrade charge is $499. What is nice is that I get 3 months to use the new pump and if I don't like its' operating characteristics, I can return it and stay with my 780G. I've already been scheduled to switch to the Simplera CGM to use with the 780G.

Orbi 970 Internet Status Waiting

After update V12 1.10.12_5.3.16, the internet status on the Basic panel shows either WAITING or NOT CONNECTED. The system is in AP mode and has been running for over 2 years. Obviously I cannot run a speed test as the program says no bandwidth. Of course. No problem running it from a computer. What am I missing here?

Leather 780g holster sets off TSA metal detector in STL

I had to go through a full body pat down because the leather holster on my 780g was triggering the alert. This is the first time traveling with the new holster. I'll have to remember to take the silicon case next time. Funny, it didn't set off the detector at RDU . Sigh!

Simplera temperature storage

What temperature range can the Simplera sensor tolerate? UPS delivered my supplies when the outside temperature was over 95 degress. The box sat outside for two days because I wasn't home to receive it. I had told Minimed not to ship until July 1, but it got sent anyway. They tried to stop the delivery by UPS , received notice of delivery date change, but it still got delivered and sat outside. Are the sensors ruined?

MiniMed Flex system trade-in

There is a trade-in program for those with in warranty 780g systems. The out of pocket cost is $499. You need to return the 780g within 90 days, so you still have a capability of reverting to the previous system. The Flex uses either Simplera or Instinct CGM sensors, so no G4. The system uses a compatible smart phone to control the system setup and the daily functions. Rechargeable so no battery replacement required, just periodic charging (7 days). I'm looking forward to ordering the new system when orders can be placed next month.
