What will happen if I tell my 18 year old’s probation officer about his substance use disorder?
1.5 years ago, at 17 my teen was placed on probation for tagging. He has mental health and substance abuse issues, specifically ketamine. He voluntarily went to a residential facility this spring after an incident at home but left way too soon. His probation officer knows nothing about his substance use. He may have a personality disorder, bipolar or autism, according to the psychiatrist at the facility. I cannot get him to see a therapist unless it is in person and we pay out of pocket. He irrationally thinks any virtual therapist is garbage. I’m at a loss as to what to do at this point. Would it be a good idea to tell his PO about the substance use to compel him into going back into treatment?
EDIT: since all my replies are being deleted due to low karma, I want to say that I absolutely do NOT want my child to go to jail. Ultimately my question was more about the likelihood of the PO sending him there if I asked for help. I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten the answer loud and clear. Truly, I’m grasping at straws at this point.
