Does plant-based really beat 'local' meat for the environment?
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the environmental arguments for and against meat, and I keep seeing this article everywhere:
https://ourworldindata.org/food-choice-vs-eating-local
Basically, they argue that what you eat matters way more than where it comes from. According to their charts, shipping soy or lentils across the globe is still way better for the environment than eating beef from a local farm down the road. They basically say the "eating local" argument is useless if you're eating meat.
For anyone here who has really dug into the environmental side of things:
● Does their math actually make sense, or are they leaving important stuff out?
● Does this data actually prove that a plant-based diet is better for the planet than eating local meat?
Curious to hear your takes on this. Thanks!
