A beautiful screw up....

Well, this one looks pretty but, believe it or not, it's a bust of a scratch build. Can you tell why? I'll describe it from top to bottom. The pommel is a tube of brass inside a tube of copper that I salvaged from a chiller. I sandwiched some steel mesh between the tubes for effect and drilled two holes for blade screws. The brass tube threads into a Corvus Foundry one-button switch section ('cause I like the bevels!) and has a Corvus insert between the sections. The switch is friction fit into the aluminum tube grip I turned on a lathe then wrapped in some gorgeous exotic eel leather. The grip is friction fit into another section of copper tube, which is fit into a solid bronze ring that has a neat manufacturing patina. After seeing the patina on the bronze, I decided to leave the patina on the copper too. The pommel is bottomed out with a mesh of brass and a copper covertec wheel. Looks great - right? So, why is this pretty saber a bust? Because I challenged myself to build it in one day and in my rush to get it finished, I forgot to include a slot for a recharging port! The emitter threads into the button section, so any electronics core would be mounted *below* the threads. There's no way to recharge the battery! (Cue the Homer Simpson slap to the forehead while saying, "D'oh!'") Anyone want a nice shelf queen?

Dichroic Saber #4 (of 4)

Here’s the last of the set of four dichroic sabers. Like the others, this started out as a SaberForge scratch-and-dent body which I turned down and cut sections completely off.

The emitter is a brass ring I turned and slotted to fit into the top of the hilt, then I slotted in three brass bars down to the button section. Beneath the bars is a dichroic wrap with vibrant blue pattern surrounding amazing orange fire color blobs. The switch section has two slots cut out to match the button slot. The last photo in this post shows 14 different sets of stones that I’ve shaped to fit in the slots. You get to choose whatever color you prefer.

The grip is wrapped in a smooth light brown ostrich leather. The dark dots on the leather are the raised bumps the long body feathers grew out of. Very supple and soft leather, easy in your grip, the bumps feel like natural knurling. The pommel is all original with matching bronze rings at the top and bottom and a copper tube in between. To finish it off, the pommel has a pattern of concentric aluminum tubes with copper rods and brass tubes, all polished up to a nice shine.

The pommel unscrews for access to the 1" diameter core. There are two button ports on the handle in the standard SaberForge configuration, but I’ve cut a copper plug insert that will permanently go into the top hole to block it, if you want. For easy charging access I carefully measured the distance from the bottom button hole to the bottom of the grip threads so that any standard core with a USB-C charging port down by the speaker will have the port exposed when you unscrew the pommel section. Or you can go full custom, do your own electronics install and use both button holes. There are three blade retention screws at the top.

A really gorgeous hilt! And it could be yours for the low price of $250 plus postage.

Lots of custom work in this beauty, metal work, stone cutting, leather work, inlay, and it all came together beautifully. This is hilt-only, no electronics or blade. If you are interested, pick out your favorite color of stones for the inlay and zap me a DM, I’ll send you a photo of the hilt with your stone choice in place so you can see what it looks like. I take PayPal for payment.

Thanks for looking!

Dichroic Saber #3 (of 4)

Here’s #3 of the set of four dichroic sabers.  Like the others, this started out as a SaberForge scratch-and-dent body which I turned down and cut sections completely off.  Maybe a third of this is original.

The emitter is a brass ring I turned and slotted to fit into the top of the hilt, then I slotted in three brass bars down to the button section.  Beneath the bars is a dichroic wrap with amazing orange fire color on a vibrant blue background.  The switch section has two slots cut out to match the button slot.  The last photo in this post shows 14 different sets of stones that I’ve shaped to fit in the slots.  You get to choose whatever color you prefer.

The grip is wrapped in a gorgeous red-brown dyed ostrich leather.  The dark dots on the leather are the raised bumps the long body feathers grew out of.  Very supple and soft leather, easy in your grip, the bumps feel like natural knurling.  The pommel is all original with matching bronze rings at the top and bottom and a copper tube in between.  To finish it off, the pommel has a pattern of aluminum and copper rods around an aluminum tube with copper, steel, and brass inserts, all polished up to a nice shine.

The pommel unscrews for access to the 1" diameter core.  There are two button ports on the handle in the old SaberForge configuration, but I’ve cut a copper plug insert that will permanently go into the top hole to block it, if you want.

I really like this one!  And it could be yours for the low price of $250 plus postage.

Dichroic Saber #2 (of 4)

Hi There!  It’s time to offer my run of “dichroic saber hilts” up for sale!  The first one is already gone, so here’s #2.  Each of these started out as a SaberForge scratch-and-dent body which I turned down more than half the surface of and cut sections of the rest completely off.  Maybe a third of this is original.

The emitter is a brass ring I turned and slotted to fit into the top of the hilt, then I slotted in three brass bars down to the button section.  Beneath the bars is a dichroic wrap with amazing blue fire color on a vibrant green background.  The switch section has two slots cut out to match the button slot.  The last photo in this post shows 14 different sets of stones that I’ve shaped to fit in the slots.  You get to choose whatever color you prefer.

The grip is wrapped in an awesome chocolate-brown dyed ostrich leather.  The dark dots on the leather are the raised bumps the long body feathers grew out of.  Very supple and soft leather, easy in your grip, the bumps feel like natural knurling.  The pommel is all original with matching bronze rings at the top and bottom and a copper tube in between.  To finish it off, the pommel has a pattern of steel rods around a copper tube filled with the same brass flat bar as the emitter, all polished up to a nice shine.

It’s a gorgeous hilt – in my humble opinion!  And it could be yours for the low price of $250 plus postage!

I'm pleased to announce that I've completed building a set of four sabers! Like the one I posted a few days ago, the other three in this set started with a SaberForge hilt which I completely reworked, adding brass and dichroic wrap to the emitter, stone inlay to the button, ostrich leather to the grip, and a new pommel made of bronze and copper, each with a unique pattern of metal rods at the bottom. A really neat thing about these sabers is that I haven't permanently mounted the stones in the button section yet. I've got more than a dozen different types of stone made to fit so any folks that are interested in owning one of these can pick the stone inlay they like. Standard 1" ID, ready for a one-button core or custom install, the pommel threads off for access to the interior. I'll turn a copper plug insert to drop into one of the two button holes tomorrow at my shop.

I'm going to post these for sale on the BTS board in the next few days, but in the meantime, please let me know what you think of my contribution to May the Fourth! :-) And if you are interested in owning one of these beauties, drop me a DM....
