Is it weird to spend an entire day on my own without leaving my house?

After being at work all week, having to leave the house every day for work and socialising all week long.

Do you find it concerning that some kids under the age of 12 already use AI and know how to use it?

I’m a middle school teacher and I find it quite sad and worrying that so many of our young students know how to use AI such as ChatGPT. Makes me wonder about the future.

Today was a day that reminded me why I really do love my job.

Happy Friday! I wanted to spread a bit of positivity and just share with you that today was one of those ‘good’ days that reminded me how much I enjoy and appreciate this job. I’m a secondary teacher (English/Humanities) and this year I only have Year 7s. My kids were great today. I’m at a middle-to-lower SES school, but I feel pretty lucky to have a fairly good bunch of kids this year. Today we were finishing up with assessments and they were just really good overall. They are (for the most part) very sweet and enthusiastic about impressing me with their work, and it has been so lovely to see them all want to engage and do well. Sure, they have their bad days. Sometimes I get sick of certain silly things they do. Sometimes I have to really put my foot down. Yes, it’s almost the end of Term 2 and I’m buggered. But today was a good day and I felt… happy. I feel grateful for the kids in my classes and I’m proud of them all. They really try. I care about them a lot, and honestly, seeing their smiling faces and seeing them laugh truly brightens my day. To any teacher reading this: never underestimate the genuinely positive impact you can have. I hope you have many good days that allow you to remember why this career can be an incredible one.
