Stylist I went to school with used a picture from when I did her hair to enter a hair show/competition
So I went to school with this woman and we weren’t close but i would consider us friends, while we were in school i did her hair multiple times and she always loved it. One of the last times i did her hair i blew up out and did a clip curl with a bigger barreled curling iron to mimic a blowout but avoid frizz and ensure it stayed perfect in the face of this texas humidity. It took me a while but i was so proud of it and learned so much from it, we took pictures and she raved about it for a week cause it stayed enact and perfect the whole time. She even went as far as to post it on her page tagging me and shouting me out, i was grateful and we moved on. Well i graduated in april and just this week have gotten my license and i open my hair account to see that she posted about being a Top 100 Finalist in the student category for the Behind the Chair Hair Competition, as she was selected she will fly to florida in august to compete. I see the picture she had submitted to the contest and it’s a picture of her perfect faux blowout that I GAVE HER. She had changed the caption of the shoutout post to be the hashtags for the contest and i guess sent it thru to the website to be used as her submission. i’m so livid at the idea of her being so appreciative of me doing her hair just to turn around and use my work and win something on top of that, she’s genuinely so nice i cannot fathom she would do this on purpose but how do you forget what’s your work and what’s not? i messaged her instagram page but it’s late and i have yet to hear back, if i wake up and still nothing, what do i do? this is so unfortunate and disappointing honestly :(
Edit: ok so i did discover she applied to the reds color section, she does do her own color and gets so many compliments because of it. that being said the picture is one i took from a style i did, i’ve seen people say the color is more captivating and i’ve seen people say the style is more captivating. it truly doesn’t matter cause she placed in the competition anyways and was focused on the color but i can say it’s disconcerting to say the least to see your art be used without your permission and i think that’s what shocked me most at first was seeing one of my proudest school moments on a bunch of different pages all with no credit to me. that being said she did attempt to explain and i wouldn’t want anybody going out of their way to be mean cause before this she had never been anything to me but kind and sweet (probably again why i was so confused)
