Another Budget rental car issue

I flew into Chicago on 7/2 and rented a car with Budget. We barely drove the car, just from the airport to the hotel, back to the airport and back to the hotel (ask me why this trip was the trip from absolute HELL), and then to a friends and back to the hotel, and then back to the airport. I experienced no issues, other than the fact that I'd paid for them to drive me to the gate and didn't receive instructions on how that worked). So when we got the airport, we unloaded, they had us reload into the same car, dropped us to the gate, and that was the end of that.

Today, a month and a half later, I'm receiving a bill for over 2k in damages. The odometer reading from the service people in just 3 miles after what I returned it at but they also apparently took this to the shop this on 7/14, 9 days after I dropped off the car. In the pictures there's a giant scratch and a ding on the car that they're charging me for. I know nothing happened to the car under my watch, but I didn't take pictures, given the whole driving-us-to-the-gate thing. There are no timestamped photographs on either end, just pictures taken on the 14th blaming me for it.

I recognize that, because of the lack of pictures, that I'm SOL, so I'm trying to pay. Their online system isn't working, and they're telling me now to give them my credit card information over the phone. I don't trust these people farther than I can throw them, so I'm unwilling to do that. This whole thing just feels like a complete and utter scam.

Week 32: Recreated - Little Debbie's oatmeal cookies

I skipped a week because I have rice krispies on deck for a nephew's birthday coming up, so I used Sally's recipe for these oatmeal sandwich cookies. My husband apparently used to love these and I've never tried them before. Decent recipe, I will say baking at 375 did make the cookies melt together and darken too much for my liking. I ended up baking the 2nd half at 350.

Week 30: Contrasts - Marbled chocolate chip cookies

Used the King Arthur recipe. I probably could have "marbled" them better but it's fine!

Week 29: Crusty - Strawberry peach galette

I had people over yesterday and figured I could make a galette for a little less pressure than a full on pie. This recipe from Sally's Baking Addiction was a rousing success.

Week 28: FIFA World Cup - Scones

I made the King Arthur scones recipe with chocolate chips and raspberry jammy bits to celebrate the UK making it to the final four (and finishing 3rd yesterday!)

Week 24: Showstopper - Strawberry cream shortbread (fail)

This one was embarrassingly a two-time fail as I tried another idea and couldn't make crepes so I attempted this recipe from King Arthur Baking, substituting agar agar for the gelatin because I'm vegetarian. I must have done it wrong because it didn't entirely set up, hence the springform pan picture. Ah well.

In continuation of my marathon catch-up week, I made Sally's Lemon Blueberry babka.

Week 26: Toppings - Peach Pie Crumb Bars

I have been traveling almost endlessly for the last few weeks so I have been behind. For toppings week, I made Sally's Peach Pie Crumb Bar with both a crumb topping and an icing.

Week 25: Summer solistice - Zucchini Muffins

Never cooked with zucchini before but I made these zucchini muffins with chocolate chips again from Sally's Baking Addiction. They're pretty good not gonna lie.

Week 23: Quick bread - Irish soda bread

I made Serious Eat's Irish soda bread. Unfortunately doesn't look like much but it tastes decent

Week 22: 48 Hour Challenge - Sourdough Boule

I made my trusty King Arthur No-Knead sourdough recipe. Started it Friday morning and just baked it off. It's just so pretty and so, so good.

Week 21: Chocolate frosted donuts

Continuing on with the chocolate theme of my year, I made Sally's Baked Chocolate Frosted Donuts. They are, of course, delicious.

Week 20: Berries - Chocolate and raspberry brownie bars

I'm now thinking that for a week themed around berries, I should have done something more berry foward, but my love afair with chocolate continues and I made this recipe from King Arthur (I did half the ganache recipe), but I used the jammy bits and the Chamboard and I love just how subtle the raspberry flavor is

Week 19: Geometric - Quilted cookies

Made these using the Washington Post's recipe. It's just a basic sugar cookie, but obviously made into this Appalachian-inspired quilt pattern that I genuinely really love.

Week 14: Savory Polarity - Tomato tart

I'm a few weeks behind on this one but finally managed to go out to our local produce stand to acquire these tomatoes. This is the Alison Roman recipe and it's very good.

Hello from London! Before leaving, I took a stab at making my favorite British cookie biscuit, the chocolate covered digestive (used the Serious Eats recipe). The dough only had 1/3 cup sugar, and I will issue no comment on the chocolate. Honestly though these are amazing and it feels dangerous to know how easily I can make them at home.
