Fwahaha, Susie, remember when you first met Dess?

We were still teenagers back then, and hadn't been dating for too long. Dess had a few weeks off from the military and came back home alongside Azzy to visit us.
When she entered QC's Diner and walked up to where we were hanging out, I was so surprised to see her! She had wanted to surprise me so she hadn't told me she'd be back early, fwahaha. I couldn't bring myself to be even a bit annoyed though — I had really missed her. It was my first time seeing her since she moved out.
While we chatted happily though, you watched, looking somewhat... nervous. The same way you used to get around Ms. Dreemurr.
I went to introduce you two, blushing at the thought of being able to introduce you as my girlfriend as I had fantasized about countless times, but before I could, Dess turned to you, carefully looked you up and down with an unusually serious expression, and said, "So... you're the girl who has been dating my little sis."
You agreed, seeming a bit intimidated and awkward, expecting her to start giving you the shovel talk, just as my parents both had, or maybe object to our relationship...
I moved to interject, but then suddenly, Dess told you, "Let's play baseball together."
Even though both of us were surprised and you said you had never played before, she essentially ushered us out of the diner, pushing our backs, and walked us towards the woods. She had already brought two bats, gloves, and a ball with her, having leaned them against the outside wall of the diner so she could grab them after getting us.
She told me I could sit down in front of a tree and watch us play if I wanted to. I hesitantly lowered myself onto the grass, leaning my back against the bark of a tree, and looked on towards the both of you.
Of course, with just two players, you could not properly play baseball. Instead, you'd just take turns batting at eachother and attempting to catch the ball, she explained, and handed you a bat and one of the gloves, while bouncing the ball in her hand.
The bat had been drawn on with paint by Dess, the surface of it covered in black stars and fire in the way she found cool. you evidently found it just as cool as she did, as you voiced your opinion, "Dude, this bat is sick!"
You grasped the handle of the bat and experimentally swung it, feeling its weight. She laughed and responded good-naturedly to your compliment, but as much as I had missed hearing her voice directly and not from the speaker of my phone, all I could focus on was how good you looked swinging that bat around while you probably imagined you were Susiezilla wrecking a city with it. The way your forearms looked in that shirt, gosh...
H-hey, you already know by now that I always found you hot, fwahaha!
So you guys started playing against eachother while I sat in the shade, watching you two interact. Even though you failed to catch the ball in your glove the first few times and hissed "Damn it.", you got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Seeing you with my sister, two of the people I treasured most in my life together, was... nice. I could have almost fallen asleep right there, with the sound of you two talking and having a match in my ears.
But then, Dess started talking to you more pointedly and asking you questions, like how we had met and how we started dating. Even if she sounded casual and it seemed innocuous at first, it was as if... she was trying to gauge how good of a girlfriend you were to me, how much you loved me, whether you were... eventually going to leave me heartbroken.
You got annoyed at the questioning and tip toeing around, and told her you'd never hurt me. You looked down at your shoes, squeezing the handle of the bat tightly, and... you said that you were aware of just how "good" I was, and that you weren't good enough for me, but that you still... loved me. And you were trying, trying to be better for me, alright?
That was the first time you had said you loved me.
You know, I had thought the same back then. That I wasn't good enough for you. I wanted to object, deny the notion that you weren't good enough for me, but I was frozen solid, like a deer caught in headlights, only able to watch the interaction in front of me play out, because of the word "love" coming out of your mouth and the revelation that you thought the same as me.
There were a few moments of silence as your gaze stayed averted and Dess scrutinized you. But then, all of a sudden, she moved to tap the tip of the bat in her hands against the top of your snout.
Your eyes widened in surprise, and then she... started talking.
Talking about how she had always felt not good enough too. Not good enough of an older sibling to me, not good enough of a daughter for our parents, for Mom. Like the black sheep of the family, the outcast in our town.
Mom had wanted her to go to college, pick a good major, but she had known that wasn't for her. That even if Mom would be highly disappointed in her and there would be endless arguments about it if she didn't go, she wasn't going to be happy if she folded herself into a box and forcibly pushed herself to become "better", to become good enough for other people, all the while drowning in her self-loathing inside.
She told you that I wouldn't stop talking about you whenever she and I called eachother, and she could tell how much I loved you and how much you loved me. She said you seemed like a good kid, and not to push yourself too hard, okay?
She slapped you on the shoulder with a smile, and your body slightly rattled from the strength of it. Dess had become quite strong and muscular during her time away from home, after all.
You stared at her wide-eyed and nodded, and yes, I could see the slight blush on your face. Your little crush on her was pretty obvious from the way you raved to Kris and I about just how cool my sister was afterwards, fwahaha! Don't deny it!
Was I jealous? Well... maybe a bit, at the time. Just a bit, okay???!
It's been such a long time since then. Years later, she asked to be the bridesmaid for both of us during our wedding, since she wanted to support both of her little sisters.
It was the happiest day of my life, and it still is.
Happy anniversary, Susie.

(I just wanted to write about an AU where nothing happened to Dess and everyone lived happily ever after. Well, relatively at least. Afterwards I suddenly realized I'm not sure whether this post even fits the vibe of the sub, so feel free to remove it if it doesn't lol)
