A few years ago we had our septic system replaced, and the soil that they put over top of it is awful. Hence the extremely patchy grass over it. I'm not sure what to do.

I don't want a grass monoculture. I'd like a fairly low maintenance "lawn" with good food for pollinators, but right now I think the soil is the problem. For the last couple years we have just done chop-and-drop mowing with the highest blade setting our mower will do, in the hope that this will help build up the soil, but without a ton of success.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?
