This song is spiritually Journals*

Let’s talk about it because no one talks about this track that I’ve seen. I played it right after Confident in the Spotify queue while listening to Journals and it fit in like Journals’ older more lo-fi indie funk brother. JB floating on this track like most of the SWAG cuts. 😩🥵

*and a dash of Changes for my Changes stans.

Isagi the Rebel Warrior

Why is Isagi repeatedly able to succeed against all expectations in Blue Lock while the Karasu’s, Reo’s, and so on find less measurable success even under the same conditions? Paying attention to Kaneshiro‘s characterization, it’s clear he made Isagi’s personality the main mechanism which allows him to flourish (not “plot”). The engine of the story is Ego’s Blue Lock program, but Isagi’s disposition is the fuel. Beyond just his adaptability (devouring), Isagi’s insatiable drive (hunger) and competitive nature (ego) make him fully suited to thrive in Blue Lock‘s insane environment.

Whenever Isagi is fighting for his life he’s having the time of his life. Bro eats war for breakfast. He has fun coming up with solutions to crush his competition and surpass his limits. He thirsts for battle and mayhem. He’s exhilarated to fight for a goal. The more you back him into a corner the stronger he gets. The rebel. The warrior. The fighter. Kaiser understood this simple fact is what makes Isagi a perennial winner, a great threat as a striker, and a deadly opponent.

Utter suitability…

disclaimer: speculative

so obviously on SWAG pretty much all the songs reference Hailey or Baby Jack in some way,

Yukon in particular is interesting to me:

”i know, you like to go slow, but we can go faster, tell me the password“

Justin is imploring the subject to be less cautious and be more assured (on the drive, but also in the relationship). He also wants the subject to be vulnerable with him and give him the key to their heart (“tell me the password”). Beautiful song. But a particular dynamic is highlighted between the speaker and the subject, wherein the speaker is committed but the subject is unsure.

with this context, throwing it back to the Purpose era, I believe these songs on Purpose are about Hailey Bieber (if it hasn’t already been confirmed).

- Get Used to It, No Pressure, and Company. Mostly because they sound like a similar situation, where the speaker is sure but the subject is not. They’re the type of songs where the guy and the girl are close friends, maybe beyond that, but not serious. The guy really wants to be around her and is patient for her to open up to him. Again foreshadowing a similar dynamic expressed in Yukon and on SWAG. Certain lines in particular like “Separated from my ex and then we got closer” and “You ain’t gotta be my lover for me to call you baby,” and even “You ain’t gotta make your mind up right now, don’t rush, no pressure,” seem pretty convincingly directed at Hailey. There’s even an interview during the Purpose era with Justin speculating that he may marry Hailey and he wants to be intentional not to hurt her. There might be other songs too, but these standout to me.

if this is accurate those songs would be a nice foreshadowing of JB talking about Hailey in Daisies: ”don’t want to be friends, just skin to skin, i wanna get closer and closer and closahhh.” He wants it known he never planned to stay in the friend zone! 😂

does it make sense? thoughts?
