Looking for advice on Altra boots/shoes for milsim + hiking + backpacking
Hey everyone,
I'm looking into getting a pair of Altras that I can use for a combination of milsim/tactical operations, hiking, backpacking, camping, and mountain trips.
My main requirements are:
- At least mid-height, preferably high
- Completely waterproof / GTX
- Good enough for walking through shallow streams/brooks
- Good grip on mud, wet rocks, roots, forest terrain, etc.
- Durable enough for milsim and rough terrain
- Comfortable for long hikes and carrying a backpack
- Suitable for mountain terrain / scrambling
- Ideally something I can use as an all-around pair rather than having separate shoes for every activity
I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who actually use their boots for a similar combination of activities.
What models would you recommend, and why? Or are there any I should avoid? How well do the shoes perform over years?
