Why on God’s green earth would Bungie close Cryo on a Sunday?
Just. Why.
Just. Why.
I get it. I really do. I love Marathon as it is. I’m not the best, and I get destroyed often, but still manage and enjoy the experience. But telling new players on this sub that they should just go play another game when they voice their frustrations just isn’t the way.
A lot of times, they’re essentially asking for a game that Marathon isn’t, so I understand the response. But get real. Shits not looking great, and you might choose to take the “ride until the wheels fall off” attitude, but I want to keep driving this mutha fucka. I want this game to survive, and there’s no reason why there couldn’t be alternate ways to enjoy the game. in fact, one could argue that there *needs* to be, for longevity’s sake.
We’re at the start of season 2, and even as someone who loves this game, I’m already burnt out on it, and I don’t even have time to put in crazy hours. Maybe you are a sweat and love sweating constantly, but the more that players bounce off the game, the sweatier it gets, which makes it even more inaccessible.
There’s no reason this game can’t be more than one thing. It didn’t start as an extraction shooter anyway. With the depth of this lore and the ideas the world inspires, it’s no wonder people who don’t like the mechanics of the game are attracted to it nonetheless.
I personally wish I had more ways to play this game. I don’t think adding more modes would dilute the core experience. “But you’ll divide the player base”. What if I told you that if the player base grows, then won’t matter if it’s divided. Plus there ways to incentivize people to play the core experience, and with faster modes with respawning, players could gain the skill and confidence to go and play the base game.
That’s all.
